"Chat Noir? Can I see you?"Her words drowned out in the night before her. The traffic down below casted their sounds all the way up from the balcony in which she stood.
Marinette felt silly. It almost felt like she was talking to herself. Of course, how would he know to come to her when he could've been anywhere across Paris.
She exhaled, her bottom lip pouting as she inwardly face palmed herself to low hell.
"Of course he couldn't hear me. What was I thinking? Listening to a cat--"
"You called for me?"
A voice immediately cut Marinette off her mutter. It startled her so much she nearly toppled over. Marinette spun around, her hand clutched the chest of her blouse.
Her blue eyes widened the moment she could see a pair of glowing green eyes that sought her out in the dark.
Marinette exhaled, her heart beating at a hundred miles a minute. A deep blush rolled into her cheeks as she realised he had just caught her talking to herself.
Chat Noir simply hopped off the baluster, standing only a few feet away from her.
"Is everything okay?" He asked, his voice soft and pliable. "You're not hurt?"
Marinette pressed her lips together.
It was only then that she realised that she could've taken important time away from his investigation.
As much as she hated to admit it, she was losing sleep over it.She was constantly looking over her shoulder in fear that she would be next.
"N-No, I'm not hurt." She sputtered with a deep blush. "I just wanted to know how the investigation was going..."
Chat frowned, stepping into the light of her balcony with a small sigh. His shoulders slumped forward, his head shaking in disappointment.
"We haven't got anywhere. There's DNA but theres no one in the system to match it to. This is a new kind of killer, either someone who's never done it before, or always got away with it. Everytime it seems like we get close, he seems to escape again. I've been working closely with the police, but I promise..." he glanced up at her. "We will catch him and no one will attack you like that again."
Marinette widened her eyes, a small blush coating her cheeks as she listened to his reassurance.
It was nice to know that someone had her back, but Marinette wasn't sure how she felt about having to look over her shoulder everywhere she went.
It didn't help that Chloe got inside of her head.
All the victims looked like her. Perhaps Marinette was next. That thought terrified her.
If it were up to her she would hire Chat Noir as her personal bodyguard, but she knew that by doing that she would cause a great distraction. She could be putting others in harm's way, and that could be detrimental to his investigation.
If he could help others the way he helped her, then that would be what was best.
"I...I'm sorry to bother you. I understand you're busy." Marinette stammered. "I just...I don't think I've had the time to properly thank you for stepping in and helping me the other night." She glanced down at her feet, suddenly feeling small like a high school girl who was sent to the principal's office. "I'm really thankful that you came in when you did. Otherwise, I don't know what would have happened to me."
