Chapter 29

Granted

"Bye, Enesi!" my girl friends waved their hands as they walked out of the school gate.

I waved back with a slight smile on my face. I watched them playfully push each other before they disappeared in my eyes. I didn't come because I am not in the mood.

I was standing in front of the building while holding the sling of my bag. I am waiting for my brother who will pick me up.

Just like Mooze, he pushes things he wants.

I sighed while thinking of my improvements here. It wasn't that hard coping with the new environment at school because they already know me, and my name helped me a lot in gaining friends and respect from other people.

That situation made me think of how riches and names control people. It's unfair, I know. It makes everything easier and convenient, sometimes in improper ways. Even though I am against of infairness, I wouldn't lie that that culture helped me a lot, and it made me comfortable.

I've also learned a lot about business. I didn't have any idea that we are 'that' influential and powerful. It's scary for some reasons.

"Hi!" Kiyo looked at me from the shotgun's seat. He waved while smiling, his eyes almost unseen.

"Hi, Kiyo. How's school?" I asked while buckling my seatbelt.

"School is still bad to me, Obasan. It's making me crazy," he said in Japanese and we laughed.

I raised both of my eyebrows.

"How about you? How's school?" he asked. He usually asks that. Pagkatapos kong tanungin si Kiyo, lagi s'yang susunod. Ibabato sa akin pabalik ang tanong.

"Obasan, school is bad to you, too?" kuryosong tanong ni Kiyo. handa na yatang makipag-away.

Natawa ako habang umiiling.

"School is fun, Kiyo. You just have to appreciate it. Look for its meaning, and purpose of it in your life," I said to him.

"I'm already comfortable at my new school," sagot ko naman kay Kuya. "People are nice to me, and some of my classmates before are still my classmates now so it's easier to adopt..."

Tumango ito. "Christmas is nearing. Where do you want to go?" he asked and averted his eyes. He's driving so he should focus on the road.

I just shrugged while pressing my lips into a thin line.

Christmas...

I am supposed to be happy, right? But I am not. It's actually giving me mixed emotions. Angat sa lahat ang lungkot at sakit. I remember Mooze's plans for our Christmas together. Hindi 'yon matutupad... We will celebrate apart.
