Chapter 3

Naive 

First six na ako sa aming volleyball team. It's normal for a grade ten to be in the first six, that's why I was wondering why my friends were so happy about it. Maybe they're just really so proud of what I've achieved.

"We kept losing against Kesian's team!" ate Tina when we took a break.

"Meron naman na si Softy! Ang galing niyang mag-set!" tukoy sa akin ng isa naming ka-team.

They cheered and teased. I was shy, but I can't help but laugh with them. Ate Tina smirked, too. She was the one who chose me to be in the first six, that's why I am really grateful. Finally, I could play against my favorite volleyball player. Si Ate Kesian.

I was wiping my sweat like bullets while listening to our captain. Undefeated kasi ang team nila Ate Kesian kaya gustong-gusto niya talaga silang matalo. Her team really plays well, so it's really hard to defeat them.

"Aren't you bothered whenever they call you Softy, bff?" Mina asked and gave me a bottle of water. Bukas na 'yon.

Umiling ako dahil ayos lang naman sa akin. If that's how they see me, then it's fine. There's no need to feel bad about it. Hindi naman nila ginagamit 'yon to bully me. They think I'm kawaii, the reason they end up with that endearment.

"Sila Cess at Kyla?" tanong ko matapos uminom.

Nasa isang kubo kami at kaming dalawa lang. Lunch break na, at pagkatapos ay babalik ulit kami sa school para mag-training dahil malapit na ang interhigh.

"Sinamahan ni Cess si Kyla sa badminton court dahil tapos na siyang maglaro ng Chess."

Tumango ako. Sa aming apat, si Mina lang ang walang sport. Mas gusto niya raw na samahan ako sa mga laro at trainings ko. She cares for me so much, and she spoils me a lot of times, too. She's the closest friend I got.

Si Cess kasi at Kyla, sila ang palaging magkasundo at magkasama. Sometimes, they get bored being with me since I am not interested in things that interest them. Hindi rin kasi ako sanay sa mga gawain nila. But they're still my friends. We're still friends and we still get along with each other. May mga oras lang talaga na hindi kami nagkakasundo...

Bago kami nakapasok sa isang restaurant, nakipagbangayan pa si Mina sa aking personal bodyguard na si Rovic. Hindi ko alam kung bakit ayaw nila ang isa't isa. Palagi na lang silang nagkakasagutan.

"Ano pa lang sadya ni Kaji sa'yo kahapon?" Mina asked while we're waiting for our food. Nasa isang Asian cuisine kami.

"He let me sign a paper for the inter high since I won't be sleeping in the dormitories," I answered while fixing my things inside my duffel bag.

Kaji is the japanese boy that was transferred here in our school. He's kind, and we talk casually. We usually talk using japanese language, and he makes me remember someone I've met in Japan.

"Hindi ka matutulog sa dorm, 'di ba? Ayaw ng grandma mo."

Tumango ako. "Hindi raw kasi safe..."

Iyon ang sabi sa akin ni grandma. I always follow everything she says since she only wants the best for me. Minsan, mas alam niya pa ang mga nangyayari sa akin kumpara kay... Mommy.

"Bakit kaya mas close ka pa sa kan'ya? Samantalang hindi siya gan'yan kabait sa mga tunay n'yang apo..."

"Hindi ko rin alam. Noong una, nasa isip ko na baka naaawa siya sa akin... dahil halos lahat ay ayaw sa akin."
