"Haha! You lose, boulder brains," Seliel teased after finishing another round of Battle and Brawn.
"Ugh, I'm starting to think you're hustling me or something. You sure this is your first time playing?" Cole asked as they sat on his couch. It was just the two of them in the apartment this morning. It had been a few days since they last saw eachother at the Gameboard Café, so they decided to get together without Cole's roommates bugging them.
"Yes, you showed me what each button does. I'm just a fast learner," Seliel gloated, sending the earth master a smirk. Cole replied with an eyeroll.
"Yeah... too fast." Seliel then leaned closer towards the young man.
"Are you... pouting?" she asked. Cole stole a look from her before scoffing.
"Sure, I'm sulking because you beat me in a video game, like I'm five," he retorted. Seliel kept her closeness and still carried a mischievous grin.
"Then, why are you sounding so mad?" It was Cole who scooted closer this time. He moved his position, so he faced her completely.
"Cause you keep rubbing it in my face," Cole said, carrying a small smile.
"Oh... who knew you were such a sore loser," Seliel mocked, but her tone was light. The two stared each other down for a moment. Cole, though, was the one to break the silence.
"Nah, that's more Kai. He nearly burned the couch cushion last time we did a Battle and Brawn tournament," Cole replied before moving away from Seliel and getting up from the couch. The young warrior frowned as she watched him leave.
She wasn't sure exactly why, but she was enjoying their little stare-off.
"Want anything to eat? We got turkey," Cole asked while making his way to the kitchen.
"I could go for a sandwich," Seliel said, standing up and following the earth master.
Cole took out the ingredients they needed: lettuce, tomato, turkey, cheese, bread, and mayo. He took the head of lettuce and pulled out a knife. He started cutting the veggie in half.
"Hey, you're using the wrong knife," Seliel said while heading over to the silverware drawer.
"Does it matter?" Cole asked as he already cut the green ingredient in half.
"If you use the wrong edge, then it'll be harder to cut and you can hurt yourself by pressing so hard," Seliel explained, pulling out a different knife. She then walked over to the tomatoes and started slicing them up on top of a cutting board.
"You sure know your way around the kitchen," Cole complimented while smiling down at the pink-haired girl.
"Eh, I learned a thing or two from my dad. This is just basic kitchen safety. You for sure need to learn this with your bad luck around the kitchen," Seliel remarked, jabbing Cole with her finger.
"Yeah... but it's nice to learn something new about you," Cole admitted, smiling sheepishly. Seliel ripped her attention away from the tomatoes and turned towards the young man. The two stared eachother down once again. Their grins carried from ear-to-ear.
"Ow! Come on!" Seliel complained. Her attention was pulled towards her hand to see she had cut herself with the blade.
"Oh gosh! Are you okay?" he asked, panicked when he spotted the blood.
"Yup, just... don't eat the tomatoes," Seliel replied before grabbing a few paper towels and covering her finger.
"Hang on, let me grab a bandage," Cole said before racing over to the bathroom. Seliel walked over to the sink and rinsed her cut. Her mind whirled with several thoughts.
