Part 3: Chasing Cars

You couldn't help but stare. The strange being across from you on the subway was staring at you. It wasn't big or menacing, but it was still there. Staring at you.You tried to avert your eyes, and look away.It didn't work, it still captured your eye.It was beginning to freak you out.You got up quickly from the car, deciding to leave the strange creature behind. You were scanning the map in your hands, when you heard a quiet voice talking near you. Their conversation turned to you. It was just a young boy with a turtleneck pulled over the bottom half of his face and an intimidating girl with greenish hair and glasses. They whispered in your direction."Tuna."You looked up from the map. "Excuse me, what was that?" The girl responded instead of the boy. "He said you could see that curse.""Yeah, there was a strange looking creature on that train. But I just thought I was losing my mind in some sort of horrible dream. I'm lost and now I'm seeing things. Plus someone just spoke to me using a fish as a word," you replied. The boy's eyebrows raised. "Sorry I didn't mean to offend you, I've just never heard someone who used alternative words." The boy shrugged. "Kelp."The girl just laughed, "Inumaki is a cursed speech user, he only speaks in sushi items to keep everyone around him safe. Since you could see that curse, I'm going to need you to come with us."You began to stutter out an excuse, but she stopped you. "I promise it's not going to be anywhere scary. It's probably where you're trying to head to right now," she replied, taking the map from your hands. "Alright Inumaki, let's head to the school. Gojo won't be able to handle this new first year." She turned to face you, "I'm Maki, what's your name?"You finally managed to speak, "I'm F/N L/N." She smiled. "Alright Y/N, let's head out."Inumaki glanced at you, his mouth hidden by the top of the scarf-like shirt. You couldn't help but look back at him.You followed the pair back to a school, and you were interrogated by the principal. He seemed satisfied with your answers, and accepted you into the school. You met with Maki and Inumaki back outside the doors."I passed," you said and Maki laughed. "I knew you would," She replied, and then she got a certain glimmer in her eye. "I think you should walk her to her dorm Inumaki." He nodded his head in agreement and started in a different direction, beckoning you to follow him. You started the trek with him, and you had a thought pop into your head. Maybe Inumaki knew sign language. You decided to try it out.You signaled at him, just a couple letters, a simple three words. How are you?He signaled back, taking a few steps backwards to answer you.I'm good, how about you?Your smile lit up. You couldn't believe he knew it. You decided to try again.I'm doing good, considering I just saw a creepy monster thing and I held it together.He laughed out loud at this, and signaled back. That won't be the worst thing you see. He wasn't watching where he was going and accidentally ran into a tree. You tried to warn him but it was too late. He collided with the tree, and you ran into him, unable to slam your own brakes on in time. You collided with his chest, and the blush flooded your cheeks. You quickly stumbled away from him, mumbling the apologies from your lips. You could see the blush on his own cheeks, less vibrant than your own."Salmon."You smiled, "It's okay. Are we almost there?""Tuna."You finally reached a set of dorms. You noticed three other first years gathered near one of their rooms. You looked over at Inumaki. "I guess I better go meet everyone." You signed this to him in shorthand, and he nodded. He signed back to you.Ok, I hope I can bump into you again sometime.Your cheeks felt hot once again and you nodded. "I hope so."He winked at you, and turned to trek back to where he and Maki had agreed to meet after dropping you off.You went over to the first years, and began introducing yourself. You found yourself drawn to the other girl, Nobara. She was super fiesty and funny, you really clicked with her. The other boy, Yuji, he was really cute and nice as well. The other boy, Fushiguro, seemed distant to you. You'd have to find his angle later. You collapsed onto your bed, enjoying the solitude for a minute. In just a day, your whole life had been turned upside down. But little did you know your whole world was about to change.*************** POTENTIAL MANGA SPOILERS AHEAD, I AM SORRY TO THOSE WHO HAVEN'T READ IT. IT'S NOT MUCH OF A SPOILER, BUT IT COULD BE CONSIDERED ONE. HEADS UP IN ADVANCE*****************************You watched the others splitting up to take different paths. You were already scared. After discovering the veil over Shibuya, you had all been called in to help. You waved goodbye at Inumaki and he tilted his head at you. He flashed a quick hand signal at you but you didn't catch it. You waved back at him and ran with the others.Without Gojo, things were heading downhill fast. Megumi had already split from you, and you were trapped fighting with Mei Mei and her little brother. You watched in fascination as her brother fought with her.She looked over at you, "What have you got up your sleeve?""I don't have a ton of cursed energy, I'm like Yuji in that aspect. But my cursed energy technique can help us keep track of the others, and where the curses are lurking." You got a sinking feeling in your chest. "I think something's actually about to hit us really soon."You turned to the dark end of the tunnel, where you heard a strange high pitched whistle. A man stepped out of the shadows, his dark hair in a half up bun. He had stitches on his forehead and a grin on his face.He looked at Mei Mei, "It's been a while. Mei Mei."Mei Mei looked over at you and her brother. "You two need to go. Right now. Go and find Megumi and Nobara."Her brother began to protest but the look she gave him made him turn to you. "Let's go."Unsure you took his small hand, and he began to lead you away. You could hear Mei Mei yelling behind you, a faint scream echoing in the tunnel. "MEI MEI," you screamed as her brother led you away.You followed her brother until he reached the edge of the veil, which looked like it had been recently shattered by an extremely massive magical force. You saw someone propped up against a wall nearby. You did a double take. The blonde haired boy's head rested on his shoulder, he had the scarf-like top of his shirt pulled down, a bandage in his mouth. He was desperately trying to tie up a tourniquet around his arm, or the remainder of it. Trying to stop the bleeding from his shoulder."Oh my god," you ripped your hand out of Mei Mei's brothers. You started running for him, screaming his name."Inumaki! Toge!" He looked up sharply at your ragged voice. You ran to his side, and started pressing your hands to the bandage around his shoulder. You could feel the tears running down your cheeks. the blood seeped through your fingers, soaking through his meager bandage. You tried ripping your shirt up, tying it tighter, your tears mixing with the blood you swiped onto your face. He reached up with his remaining hand, and wiped your tears away. "Plum."You had never heard him say that word before. He cupped your cheek in his hand."Plum.Plum.Plum."The thought struck you like lightning. The sign he had been flashing at you earlier. He had been trying to tell you he loved you. Before he'd left, but you hadn't caught it in time, and now he couldn't make the sign anymore. He had figured out another way to tell you.By using the word "Plum".

The tears flowed down your cheeks freely, and he tried his best to wipe them away. His hand wrapped around the back of your head. He tugged you away from his arm, and closer to him. You kneeled in between his spread legs. He pulled you into him, like the first time you two had collided.

His lips met yours in a bittersweet kiss, your tears mingling into the kiss. He chuckled, and you couldn't help but laugh into his mouth. You kissed him back, your hands, covered in his dry blood at the moment, entangled themselves in his hair. Your kisses strayed from his lips to all over his face, and you pressed two to the markings on the edges of his lips.

Those three words,

are said too much,

they're not enough,

You pulled back from your barrage of kisses. 

"I love you Toge. I'm sorry I didn't see your signal earlier, and now I'll never get to see it again," your crying started again, and you remembered that you needed to stop his bleeding.

You pressed down on his arm harder, and he wrapped a hand around your wrist, stopping you. 

"Plum."

"Toge, please let me fix this. You're bleeding so heavily."

"Tuna. Tuna."

"I know you know, but we have to-" He put a finger over your lips, and then pressed his own to yours. "You're telling me I need to go, aren't you?"

He nodded your head. "Salmon roe."

He was telling you to go help the others. 

"Toge, please I don't want to leave you again," you begged him. He just pressed another melancholy kiss to your lips. 

"Plum."

If I lay here,

If I just lay here,

Would you lie with me and just forget the world.

You wrapped your arms around his neck and pressed kisses all over his face, sitting on his lap. "I love you Toge. I'll come back, please don't go anywhere. I'll be right back."

 He smiled at you, and mouthed the words, "I love you Y/N." He pushed you off his lap, telling you to go help the others.

You turned away from him, and the tears fell like raindrops from your eyes as you ran to the locations of the others.

All that I ever was,

Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see.

As you ran away from the boy you loved with all your heart, you whispered to the wind.

"I love you Toge Inumaki."
