It takes a week of me vomiting, having cravings and mood swings for me to put the pieces together.
Jay didn’t notice any of the oddities. A week after the doctor’s appointment that ended with a diagnosis of a stomach bug, I wake up to puke in the toilet. It should be gone by now. And my gut tells me something is wrong. I decide to check my calendar on my phone.
I gasp as I check the dates from the last 2 months. My hand flies to my belly where it’s hard like muscle. Not the normal flab I had. “JAYDEN!!! Call the Doctors and set an appointment THIS SECOND!!!”
I hear Lisa run upstairs while Jay dials the down stairs phone. Lisa finds me sitting on the bed poking my belly. “Are you ok Claire?” She pauses when she sees the panic on my face. “Claire… Don’t make me guess for myself. Are you…”
I cut her off before she could finish the question. “SHHH, Lisa shut the hell up. I don’t know and I’m scared. If and I mean IF I am… Then what am I gona do? I’m 15 Lisa, and the problems with the Blood pack. This is horrid timing.” I start to cry as I realize that this thing in me, this baby, could be in danger. Even more danger then I am. Not to mention that I’m not ready. I’m only 15.
Tears fall down my face into my lap. Lisa sits next to me and hugs me and comforts me. Jay enters the room and sees me crying. “Babe? Is something wrong?”
Lisa looks at me for me to answer. Through my tears I whisper, “How soon are we going to the doctors?”
Jay looks at me with concern in his eyes. “As soon as we get there he can get you in. Talk to me Claire.”
I shake my head no and wipe the tears away. “Not till the doctor sees me. And I’d like the check-up to be just me and Lisa.” Jay looks down confused. He sighs an ok and heads down stairs to start Milly’s station wagon.
Lisa stands and helps me up. “I’ll be by your side. You’re my sister Claire.”
I nodd and we head down stairs to leave. Lisa lets Milly know that we would be back. Lisa and I sit in the back seat while Jay drives the few miles to the doctor’s office.
Lisa rubs my shoulder and Jay constantly looks back at me to make sure I’m ok.
We get to the pack’s doctors’ office within a few minutes. I leave Jay in a waiting room while Lisa and I go into a room. Dr. Johns comes in right after us and shuts the door. “What is wrong Miss Mason?”
I lift my shirt up enough to show my hardened belly and explain. I haven’t stopped puking in the mornings; I’ve had a few cravings and now this. My period is late by a week. Jay and I did mate a few weeks ago.”
He puts a latex glove on and feels my belly and sighs. “How long ago did you mate?”
“5 weeks, I think.”
He hands me a cup and asks me to pee in it and points me to a joined bathroom. When I come back I have the cup to him and he leaves. “Lisa, what am I gona do? What am I gona tell Jay? How am I gona tell him?”
I start to cry again and Lisa hugs me. “What for the result and let me handle it. I know my brother. And you are not emotional stable with everything going on. Claire, it will be ok, no matter what happens. You are safe and so is the baby.”
Lisa wipes my face and I hug her. Dr. Johns came in with a worried look on his face.”Claire, your suspicions are correct. With your age I would suggest an abortion but you have a Mate and not an ordinary pack member. My only advice is to speak with Luna Jessie, Beta Jason, and Jayden. May God be with you and for you to have good luck. Contact me once you figure out what you will do so I can set appointments up.”
