It’s a week till I’m due. The Blood pack has finally gone home and the packs are at peace again. Jason and Jessie are still at the Blood pack area taking care of a few things and Coda.

Lisa has become impatient and Jay worries. He doesn’t want me to be alone for more than a minute. Elliot has stepped up to his Beta role greatly. Defending against rouges seems to be his specialty.

I finally figured out a name for my sweet daughter. But Jay and I are the only ones who know so far.

I’m eating breakfast down stairs when the baby kicks. It hurts a little. Jay looks up at me and concern. I smile and continue to eat. Jay sits next to me at the table. “I hope everything goes as planned.”

I nodd. I get up and wash my plate. As I put it in the drainer a sudden pain shots through my body. I grab the counter and whine. Jay appears behind me. “Are you ok?”

I wait for a minute and the pain goes away. “Yes. I’m fine now. I just need to sit down.”

Jay helps me walk to my new rocking chair in the living room. I lean back and try to relax. Jay watches me for a few minute before cleaning up his place at the table.

Jay comes back and sits on the couch. He watches me as I take deep breaths.

The baby kicks and this time it is in an upward direction. Pain shots through my abdomen this time and I curl up into it for the few second that it lasts. Jay jumps up. “I’m calling the doctor. I think we need to take you in.”

I whine until the pain is gone again. I hear Jay talking through the phone in the other room. He walks into the living room to check on me while he on the phone. He speaks into it before hanging up. He walks over to me. “Are you able to stand?”

I try to push myself up but I’m unable too. “I don’t know. I can’t get out of the chair though.”

Jay grabs my arms and we lock our hands on each other’s forearms. I stand and lean on him. His face has a look of concentration and concern written all over it. We start to walk to the door slowly. I see the front door fly open and Elliot and Lisa are there.

Elliot has me rap one arm around his shoulders and my other arm around Jay. Lisa stands behind me to support me from behind. They walk me to Elliot’s Suburban. Lisa and Jay sit in the back with me While Elliot drives us to the hospital.

Pain shoots through me again and I gasp and whine till it fades again. Jay looks at me in concern. “Before the pain at breakfast did you have any other of these attacks?”

I think back and remember last night. “I didn’t sleep well and you didn’t get me up till you had the table set. I woke up every few hours last night.”

Jay sighs and takes my hand. “I think something is wrong.”

Lisa looks at me. “It’s contractions. You went to the bathroom last night right?”

I nodded and she sighed. “Your water may have broken then. Or while you were in a shower if you did shower last night.”

Jay rubbed my hand as the pain shoots through me again, lasting a few seconds longer then the last one. Jay kisses my forehead. “She took a shower around 10. We got up only an hour ago.”

Lisa nodds. We arrive at the hospital them and Elliot, Jay and Lisa help me into the hospital where I’m placing in a reclined wheel chair. Doctor Johns has them wheel me to a maturity ward room.

“How long in-between contractions?”

Jay looks at Lisa for her to answer. “At least 10 minutes or more.”

The doctor sighs. “We need to do an ultrasound to make sure that the baby is ok. I can have only Alpha Jayden in her for it.”

Lisa and Elliot left and I’m transferring into an odd chair. Dr. Johns does the ultrasound. “It looks like the umbilical cord is wrapped around the baby’s neck. It’s not tight so she is still safe but we have to do a C-section immediately or she can be in danger.”

Jay looks at me as another contraction runs through me. “If that’s what we need to do then do it.”

The doctor leaves the room taking the machine with him. He returns with different machines and a few nurses and another doctor.

They hook me up to monitors and pt an IV in my arm. I watch as they enter a needle into the IV. My body starts to go numb. Dr. Johns talks to Jay. “We have to sedate her for any pain. She may still feel the contractions right now but in a few moments they won’t bother her anymore. It would be better for you to stand by her side and hold her hand. Claire, you may feel tired and it is ok if you fall sleep.”

Jay grabs my left hand and squeezes a little. I look at him and see worry flash through his eyes.

I try to smile but a contraction happens and I close my eyes, squeezing Jay’s hand. After it’s gone I open my eyes and everything is burred. My eyes feel heavy and Jay squeezes my hand. “I’ll be right here.”

I close my eyes and fall sleep.

~ A few hours later~

Waking up is difficult. My eyes want to close but Dr. Johns and Jay are trying to wake me up. I’m lying in a hospital bed and the back is leaned up. I rub my eyes and look around. Lisa is in a chair holding a blanket bundle. Jay is holding my hand, smiling at me.

Dr. Johns flashes a light in my eyes and asks me to follow it with my eyes. I do so. He nodds at Jay and leaves. Jay takes the bundle from Lisa and hand it to me. “Sarah Lynn is a beautiful, healthy baby.”

I take the bundle and look at Sarah’s face. She sleeps sound fully. The top of her head is covered in a thin layer of black hair. I smile as I hold my daughter for the first time.

She is perfect. She moves a little in her sleep. And her eyes flutter, giving me a flash of her beautiful electric blue eyes.

I smile and look at Jay. “I love her eyes. Sarah is absolutely perfect.”

Lisa comes over and puts a hand on my shoulder. “I am proud to an aunt. Jason is flying in now to visit. Eliot and I called as soon as they told us about the C-section.”

I nodded and smiled y my baby. My wolf speaks to me after months of silence. ‘She is like us. She will be powerful and I have spent my time investigating her. She will amaze everyone. Just give her time.’

I gasp as my wolf speaks to me and I tell Jay what she said. Jay smiles and looks at me. “She will be a blessing to everyone just like she is to us.”

Lisa kisses Sarah’s head before leaving. “I have to meet Elliot. He is patrolling to keep us safe.”

Jay kissed Sarah’s head too. “Johns says that we are free to go in a few hours. Your werewolf powers include rapid healing. Most other werewolves would have to say a few days while humans would stay a week or more.” I nodd and sigh happily.

Later that day when we get home, I put Sarah in her crib while she sleeps. I sit in my reclining rocking chair next to the crib. Jay goes down stairs to answer the door.

I start to doze off when Jay enters the room. “Grandpa Jason is here.”

Jason walks in the room and smiles. His grey hair has grown. Jason hugs and me and then looks at Sarah. “She is beautiful. And I’m proud to be a grandfather. Even if it is by adoption.”

I laugh. Jay notices how tired I am from the day. “Jason, Claire is tired and Sarah is sleeping. Why don’t we talk down stairs while they sleep?”

Jason agrees. They leave and Jay leaves the door open. I recline the chair and fall sleep quickly.
