Just a disclaimer, all these characters and ideas belong to James Dashner. I only own Maya!

I looked after Alby for the rest of the day. He didn't get any better which put everyone on edge.

Jeff asked if I could help him with getting water and I told him I could just do it. Someone needed to stay back and watch Alby since Clint was mending one of the slicers.

Taking a bucket, I walked out of the infirmary and to the kitchen to grab water. The sun was setting and torches had been lit, casting shadows over everything. It was kind of scary but kind of soothing at the same time.

Once the bucket was filled, I sat down on the floor and looked for a rag on the shelf bellow to use.

"Need help?" Someone asked softly.

I jumped slightly and looked up to see Newt. "Whoa. You scared me."

"Sorry." He smiled slightly and sat in front of me.

"It's fine. I'm not finding what I need anyway." I shrugged and pulled my knees up to my chest.

"Are you alright?" He asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine." I kept my eyes away from his as I lied.

"You know you do this really unnerving thing when you lie," He said. "You don't make eye contact which is a shame because I love your eyes."

I sighed and looked straight into his beautiful hazel globes. "Happy?"

"Yes. Now what's up?" Newt pushed.

I sighed again and crossed my legs, sitting my hands in my lap. "Alby is dying. Ben is most likely dead. That other boy... dead. All because of me and Thomas."

"No, Maya-"

"Don't deny this, Newt!" I snapped. "It's obvious! You know it's true and so do the other boys. And what's heartbreaking is that I know it as well but I can't help it because I don't know why I'm even here. I am a cause of ruining your beautiful Glade."

"Maya stop." Newt mumbled.

"You know it's true. Just because you like me, doesn't mean I didn't cause half of this." I explained.

"Stop." Newt said, more firmly. "For goodness sakes just stop it."

I looked up at him and he took my hands in his. "Newt I could've put you here."

"I don't care. Because it doesn't matter about our past lives. Here and now, is what matters." Newt shrugged.

I let his words sink in and for a moment I believed it. But then that moment was gone and disappointment towards myself came back, stronger than before.

I took my hands back and spotted a rag on the first shelf. Grabbing it quickly, I picked up the bucket filled with water in my other hand and returned to the infirmary.

Newt followed me back to Alby but we didn't talk anymore. He just spoke to Jeff.

Then Thomas came in with Teresa and they handed him a sort of syringe with a blue liquid in it. I knew almost right away what it was so I stood up and walked over, grabbing it from Newt's hand.

"Maya? What is it?" Newt asked, frowning deeply.

"I... it's something. An... an antidote... I think." I replied, without hesitation.

"Are you sure? I mean we don't actually know what that stuff is or who sent it." Newt said.

Memories flooded into my head as Thomas and Newt fought over the serum in my hand.

I remembered testing this and it didn't work for the first few tries but then it did. And then I gave it to Teresa. That was where the memories ended.

I turned to Newt and nodded. "Thomas is right. He's dead anyway if we don't try. If it kills him, it either does it slower or quicker."

"Come on, Newt." Thomas pleaded.

Alby wheezed and moaned in the background, something he had been doing since he woke up after being stung.

It was not a pretty sound and I for one just hoped this serum worked.

If Newt allowed it.

"Fine. Do it." Newt nodded towards me and I wasted no time in sitting by Alby's side.

"Get away from me." He growled at me.

"We're gonna make you better Alby." I said softly.

"NOOO!" Alby grabbed my shirt and threw me into the nearest wall.

I wasn't sure what I knocked over but it was definitely not soft under me when I hit the ground. The boys struggled to pin Alby down, and I looked up just as Teresa slammed the syringe into his chest.

The sound of the liquid emptying filled us all with relief as Alby slowly calmed down.

It worked. For now.

Newt helped me to my feet and I stumbled a bit before I regained my balance.

"Alright, from now on somebody stays and watches him around the clock." Newt ordered and then looked at me. "You okay?"

"Yeah. My pride is probably the only thing seriously injured." I said, sarcastically.

"Yeah, she's fine." Thomas muttered, for us all to hear.

Everyone cracked a smile while I rolled my eyes. The door creaked open and in walked Gally with a torch.

"Sundown greenie. Let's go. You to, Maya." He said, before walking out.

Thomas and I exchanged glances at each other, before quickly following.

"Hey Gally, why do you hate us?" Thomas asked suddenly as we walked to the pit.

"I don't hate Maya anymore." He growled.

"Liar." I pointed out.

"Everything started going wrong the minute you guys showed up. First Ben, the Alby. And now another girl." We stopped at the doors of the pit and Gally turned to us. "Everybody saw she recognized you. And I'm bettin', you know who she is."

Thomas and I stayed quiet. Gally took that as a slight agreement and opened the door for us to get in. Thomas went in first. I turned to Gally and ran a hand through my hair.

"Gally maybe all this happening is a good thing." I suggested.

"Get in." He said, simply.

I nodded and did what I was told. I sat beside Thomas and watched as Gally closed the door and locked it with the rope.

"Gally," Thomas spoke up. "You know we can't stay here forever right?"

Gally took another glance at us and then walked away. Thomas sat back with me and I laid my head on his shoulder.

"Great. One night in this hell hole." I mumbled.

Thomas chuckled. "Won't be too bad. At least we have company."

I nodded and then an idea dawned on me. "What do we do if we have to pee?"

Thomas looked at me and then burst into laughter. I smiled and shrugged.

"It's a valid question!" I exclaimed.

"Just get some sleep, yeah?"

"Yeah. Okay." I smiled and laid down in the corner so Thomas could have more room since he was bigger.

It wasn't until then, did I realize how tired I was and I fell asleep instantly.
