Just a disclaimer, all these characters and ideas belong to James Dashner. I only own Maya!

Minho asked if he could see both Thomas and me. I said yes, quickly leaving my station. My fingers were getting raw and I wasn't sure how long I could stand in the same hut with Gally for much longer.

He took us deep into the woods before getting us to what he wanted to show. The map room. The map of the whole maze, done and beautifully made.

"You're still mapping the maze?" Thomas asked, leaning on the table.

"There's nothing left to map." Minho said, solemnly. "I've run every inch of it myself. Every cycle. Every pattern. If there was a way out, we would've found it by now."

"Minho... why haven't you told anyone this?" I asked.

"It was Alby's idea. People needed to believe we had an actual chance of getting out." Minho took out the device they found and handed it to me. "But maybe now we do."

"What would this number mean?" I asked myself quietly.

"Take a look at this," Minho interrupted. "About a year ago, we started exploring these outer sections. We found these numbers painted on the walls. Sections 1 through 8."

"Okay?" I shrugged, not understanding any of it.

"The way it works, is every night the maze changes." Minho explained.

"We know that." Thomas nodded.

"Yeah but it opens up a new section every night as it changes. So today, section 6 was open. Tomorrow it'll be 4, then 8, then 3. The pattern always stays the same."

"What's so special about 7?" Thomas asked.

"I don't know. Last night when you killed that Griever, section 7 was open. I think that might be where it comes from. Thomas here and I are gonna take a better look tomorrow." Minho replied.

Thomas nodded.

"Any advice for us, Maya?" Thomas mumbled.

I bit the inside of my cheek and ran my finger over the 7.

"Just one thing," I looked up at them both and smirked. "Get us outta here."

Thomas and Minho smiled, but our moment was interrupted when Jeff and Clint ran up to the door.

"Hey, what you guys doing, you're not allowed in here." Minho scolded them.

"Sorry it's just the uh..." Jeff said, panting.

"It's the girl. She's awake." Clint finished.

I was the first to reach Chuck as we ran out of the woods. He was giggling and looking towards the watchtower.

"Chuck what's going on?" Thomas asked.

"Girls are awesome!" He laughed pointing at the watchtower.

The new girl was throwing pots, pans, food and anything else she could find at the Gladers below. This brought a smile to my face and I couldn't help but quickly run to the ladder. The other boys called for me, but I was already through the hatch.

"Whoa it's Thomas!" He yelled from the ground.

The girl saw me and quickly picked up a sword, raising it to my face. I put my hands up in defense and watched as her focus was now on me.

"You're... you're a girl..." She frowned, shifting uncomfortably.

"Yeah. And happily not the only one anymore." I replied.

She lowered the sword and let me get closer.

"Can I come up?" Thomas called.

"Not yet. Just give us a minute." I called back.

Nobody replied.

"So... do you know your name?" I asked her.

"Teresa." She said.

"Teresa." I smiled. "That's nice."

"Thank you. Do you remember yours?"

I nodded. "Maya. It took me a little longer to figure it out."

Teresa looked around as if she was finally taking in the Glade.

"Why can't I remember anything? Why are there a bunch of boys and we're the only girls? Where are we?" She rambled.

"None of us remember, Teresa. We only have our names to hang to and maybe some weird dreams but nothing more." I explained. "I think I was sent here by mistake. Everything went wrong when I came, then Thomas came and now you. Things are out of the ordinary."

"So it's our fault?" She asked.

"We can never know for sure. Not yet anyway." I shrugged.

"What is this place?" Teresa asked, finally looking at me again.

"We call it the Glade. It's just a little home for us." I answered as best I could.

Teresa nodded and picked up the sword. "They said I kept saying Thomas' name in my sleep. Who is he?"

"I don't know. But he may have some more answers for you if you want me to send him up." I offered.

She just nodded in reply. Quickly climbing down the ladder, I saw the boys still waiting.

"Go up Thomas." I told him. "As for the rest of you Shanks, give 'em a minute."

"Alright. Let's go." Newt said.

Thomas climbed the ladder as the rest of us walked away to mind our own business. But the question still remained with all of us.

Who is Thomas and why is he so important?
