Fixing the past

Chapter VII: Agni Kai

"So then, shall we finish this, Azula?"

Those words rang through her head over and over again as she kneeled there, his back facing her Mother. It appeared, despite her Mother being quite clearly unhinged. She still cared about "tradition", even if that tradition was made by some over-obsessed Fire nation men who wanted nothing more than to show off their strength and say it was for the honor. So, despite that her Mother wanted the Agni Kai done traditionally, but Azula couldn't be bothered to care. She just did as she said and prepared to win. So, they kneeled with their backs to each other with a large cloth draped around their bare shoulders. Instead of a gong this time, they waited for the sun to fall across them from the horizon. Which wouldn't be long now, just a few more seconds, a few more moments, a few more breathes, and then... now! Azula felt the sun on her face at the same time Ursa did and they both stood up the cloth falling to the ground. They turned to face each other, as they did Azula caught a glance at Ty Lee blushing, at first she was confused. Then she realized it was probably because she wasn't wearing a shirt and instead just her bra. Granted a decent sports bra (I understand they didn't have sports bras, but to be fair, they didn't have bras either) but still. Azula couldn't think about that though, because Ursa had already gotten into a fighting stance. It still made Azula sick to see Ty Lee gagged and tied up like that, so she had to win this, not for her, but Ty Lee. Azula got into one as well but was confident that she could win. Azula had never seen her Mother use firebending much. Occasionally she'd use small amounts for small things like cooking or to light a dark room. Though Azula had never seen her Mother uses her firebending to great lengths or strengths, she knew she had some power. That's why she wasn't prepared to underestimate her, she was smart enough to know that underestimating someone's abilities could lead to her downfall. Azula crouched quickly and let off a barrage of fireballs from her fists, trying to pelt Ursa with them. However, Ursa easily glided through them and extinguished them with swift punches. Almost as if she had been training for this, almost as if she had been prepared. Even in such a mental state Ursa was able to use great power, and had much grace. This was the mother Azula remembered, the one who could glide through fireballs with ease and grace. As soon as all of Azula's fireballs dissipated, Ursa ran up to Azula quickly delivering a deadly fireball to the chest, but Azula narrowly evaded her. And so the battle commenced, and Azula quickly realized this wasn't going to be easy.

As Zuko walked out into the courtyard and saw Appa floating slightly above the ground, everyone on her waiting for him. "Are you ready?" Aang asked, Zuko nodded and climbed up Appa. Appa took off quickly, seeming to know the urgency of the matter. "She's ok Zuko, they both are." Katara tried reassuring him, but he wasn't so sure. Even if Azula one is Agni Kai between Ursa, and saved Ty Lee. That would still leave Ursa, most likely dead, or even if not, still gravely injured. Then Azula would have to go back to the Asylum. Though the other option was that Azula was beaten, and most likely killed by Ursa. Ty Lee would probably be killed too. The only option Zuko could see was if he and the gaang managed to get there in time. Then they could stop Azula, save Ty Lee, and put Ursa away. Though, Azula might still need to be placed back in an Asylum. One way or another, this was going to end badly for Azula. Zuko wasn't sure he cared, however, now openly fuming with rage, and completely annoyed that she'd do such things. Really, how could she be so stupid? Maybe she deserves what she's getting? Maybe... Zuko wasn't sure how he felt about that though, so he pushed it away and focused on getting there. Though, that was pretty hard considering that Sokka and Toph were being undeniably loud! And Katara was trying to scream over them to get them to stop, but in the process making things worse. And Aang, with all the noise, could barely control Appa. He sighed, focused, and yelled loudly above everyone! "Sokka, Toph!" He yelled, "Be quiet!" With them shut up, Katara stopped screaming and Aang could get better control of Appa, even though Appa was very startled by Zuko's screams. They bobbed around a bit until Appa recovered and then sped up quickly. Then, sure enough, they saw deep blue flames in the distance, but also something else.. red flames.

Azula dodged another powerful fire blast. Azula wasn't expecting such a fight from her mother and didn't care to have it go on. Azula did a spin kick sending a blazing ring of fire at Ursa. Ursa simply jumped over it and did a front flip in the air, sending an ark of fire towards Azula. Azula side kicked it to extinguish the arc, then shot a blazing stream of fire towards Ursa, which Ursa used to her advantage and augmented the flames around her like a cloak of fire. Then out of nowhere, Ursa came up right in front of Azula and shot a pressurized ball of fire from her palm, hitting Azula square in the chest. Azula flew, smacking into the cliff wall and falling to her hands and knees. Azula coughed and spat, Ursa came over, a dagger of flames in hand. Azula used another trick up her sleeve, and when Ursa got close enough, Azula shot a sprawling stream of fire from her mouth. Azula, at this point, took on a more dragon-like appearance. Her hair was loose and danced around her head, her body coated in sweat and dust. Smoke coming from her mouth and nostrils, and of course, the fact that she was breathing fire! The powerful stream of fire that Azula shot from her mouth blasted into Ursa, which burned and blistered her skin. Ursa managed to have some control of Azula's fire, which kept her from burning to death. Though Ursa was badly burned, she could still fight, and she intended on it. Ursa shot her stream of fire, from her lips. This stream, however, was more expected and Azula easily broke the stream in two and had it flying past either side of her. After Ursa was done, Azula blasted her with a fireball, then Azula quickly generated a fire whip. She whipped Ursa in the side, then in the leg, then in the chest, which sent Ursa back. All of a sudden Azula heard a sound, her name being called by.. Zuko? And who was that other voice from? Katara? Aang too, even Sokka she heard, and possibly Toph, or maybe that was some angry armadillo-bear. Well, Azula was distracted however, Ursa seized the advantage, and swept Azula off her feet, then generated her fire whip. Ursa used her whip more aggressively and more sporadically. "Take that! Burn, Burn! I hope you Burn Oz-" Ursa was cut off by herself. The whipping stopped for a moment and the whip dissipated. "Wh-what am I doing I should be, no, but your.. your not. I-I..." It seemed Ursa's mind was conflicted with itself, she couldn't even be crazy right! But then again, neither could Azula, she had the same conflicting thoughts of her own. Even though Azula felt some form of pity for her mother, she couldn't do anything about it now. Azula fought through the pain, She whipped me hard. Then Azula delivered a few punches, some Ursa managed to dodge a few fur blasts, but then one hit her square in the chest and she fell. All of a sudden Appa landed just near them, which shook the whole ground sending Azula toppling over. Zuko quickly stood between her and Ursa, like Aang, Mai, and Katara went over to free Ty Lee. Ty Lee, now without her gag, ran over to Azula and yelled all sorts of stuff to Zuko. But Zuko did pay attention because he was too busy looking down at Azula. She tried to get up, but just then she felt a sharp pain in her side. She almost got fully up when she noticed a large amount of bliss coming from her side, and then it all started becoming fuzzy. Azula's vision blurred and Ty Lee's voice became more distant, despite her drawing closer. Until everything was dark and Azula was out cold.
