Maeko-chan,

I'm sorry if this had to end up this way. It wasn't healthy anymore. Our lives were revolving around each other. And we still hadn't moved on from the past. It's not fair to both of us. I don't want to hurt you and I don't want to be hurt. Let's not suffer anymore. So, let's set each other free, ne?

I want you to know that I care for you a lot. And that these past few months were a blast. You had been there for me since the first day I was sent to this hospital. I'll rest my leg and play basketball again. I'll come back and fulfill my promise to Hyuga. But that's not the only promise I want to make.

I promise that we'll be close friends again when I come back. You'll have to tell me a lot of stories about yourself though. Your adventures and if you met new people. Maybe you might have found a new lover by that point. I'll tell you about mine too! But I doubt I'll find a girl here haha. I'm inside the hospital so there's not much to meet.

Lastly, I realized something too. You taught me how experience relying on other people. That I don't have to do things alone. Thank you for that. Let's find the inner peace in our hearts. See you soon!

Kiyoshi Teppei

P.S. I'll buy you a lot of burgers when I come back.

"Baka," whispered Maeko, as she clutched the letter. "We'll be waiting for you at Seirin High, Teppei."

Maeko placed the letter back inside the envelope and laid down her bed. She stared at the ceiling, lost in thought. How do I set myself free?
