Normani's POV

I gazed at my bedroom door as my finger tips rubbed my lips

'Great! My first kiss was with the prince of Adarlan and he brushed it of as a mistake' I thought

I angrily got in bed, under the covers and tried to get comfortable, I tried counting backwards and everything to help fall asleep until one got frustrated and the water works started at least it made me fall asleep

In times like these, my mom would always know what to say to help me calm down but she's not here anymore so I have to deal with this all on my own

I woke up and stretched as I looked out of the window. When I did saw the familiar SUV parked out by the gate making me furrow my eyebrows

I did my morning routine and got dressed to head back to the castle. On my way back to my room I bumped into Y/N in the hallway

For a minute we just stood, neither of us saying anything until I spoke up "Why did you come back?"

"I didn't leave" he shrugged

"You slept here last night? On the couch?" I asked trying to get clarification. He nodded and looked at me

"You've been crying" he stated

"I just miss my mom" I said, that was one of the reasons it wasn't the main one

It was so awkward "I guess we should head back to the castle?" He questioned and I nodded

In a short space of time we made it to the castle. As soon as we did we parted ways, I to my dorm and him to the castle

"Hey" CC greeted me as I was passing the maze

I saw her and the queen standing side by side

"Hello. Your highness" I greeted both women but bowed at the queen

"Hello dear. Is everything okay?" She asked

"It will be fine" I answered and she sent me a sad smile

"It will be" she said and I nodded before entering my dorm

I had breakfast and unpacked my stuff before heading to the castle

Normani's POV

I saw the queen standing exactly where she said I should meet her. She was alone as she sat on one of the swing seats

"I'm sorry your highness but I have no news for you this week. In fact I don't think its right to spy on your own son and the future queen" I said as soon as I approached her

She looked over at me with a scowl before speaking "I thought you were different"

"I am different. If you don't like it then you can always tell me to leave" I answered

"Normani" I heard Y/N's voice behind me. It wasn't one of 'I'm head to see you' or 'what are you doing here' it was in a stern deep tone

"Are you aware that your talking to the queen of Adarlan who is also my mother?" He questioned

"I- yes-"

"I should fire you" he said cutting me off as he walked pass me and over to his mother

"Its fine Y/N/N" she chimed in but Y/N wasn't having it

"What do you mean it's fine? She just disrespected you ma" he ranted angrily

"I said it's okay" the queen repeated

"Whatever. I want her off my service"

"Y/N-" this time I was the one to cut the queen off and I had no remorse whatsoever

"I didn't say anything wrong. In fact I was standing up for myself, you don't even know the reason behind our conversation" I spoke up and the two looked at me surprised

The queen had an impressed look while Y/N was taken aback by my response

"Are you serious right now? Now your definately off my service" he said looking me up and down with a scowl similar to the one his mother had not too long ago

"Y/N put it to rest"

"No mother. I refuse to be served by someone that disrespects my mom and I'm shocked your actually in my spot right now" he vented

"Put her on kitchen duty" he added before walking off

I gasped at that 'he can't be serious' I thought as I watched him walk away

When he was out of sight the queen spoke up

"Well, that was a test gone wrong"

"I'm sorry?" I questioned generally confused at what she meant 'test'

"It was to test your loyalty towards the future king. You did succeed but I think he's serious about his order..." she trailed off

"So I'm really stuck with kitchen duty until further notice because your test backfired?"

"Don't get too complacent now" she said giving me a stern look and I nodded

"That means you are not to be seen anywhere inside the castle other than the kitchen. All you're doing is the dishes and helping the chef dish out the meals to give to each maid for the respective royalties" she informed

"Understood"

"Good, I'll fill in CC on your new schedule" she said and turned to walk away "have a good night Normani"

I smiled that she knew my name as I made my way to my dorm. As soon as I walked in I was met with Maya who was seated on the couch watching TV while munching on dry cereal

She looked over at me before greeting me "You look happy"

"I am" I sighed as I sat beside her

"Why?"

"I got demoted from being the prince's maid to kitchen service that and the queen knows my name"

"Your weird" she laughed "she knows everyone's name"

"Oh" she said and my smile fell

"So who's gonna get your spot for the prince?" Maya asked and I shrugged

"I don't know but at this point I don't want to be around him" I vented my thoughts going back to the night he kissed me and walked away

"Who wouldn't want to be around the prince? Come on, it's the prince of Adarlan" she exaggerated

"Me Maya. Me" I answered as I stood to go to my room

"See...weird" she mumbled
