"I honestly didn't expect to return home without you"

"It's an honor to fight along side you, your highness"
Acasea fights back the urge to roll her eyes. She's not some edgy teen on her half-to adulthood phase after all. She's a grown demon who has made tough decisions and taken many lives, at this point it would be disrespectful to her own image if she acted like the teen that she actually is. In fact, the annoyance isn't even rooted in any bad behavior or will to rebel. It's coming from the absolute pain and exhaustion that she is going through, and the disgusting smell of the generals breath.
Acasea doesn't want to think about it, but if she did, she'd know that it's been exactly one week since she left her mates. The longing and the pain is beginning to settle, in two different ways. She is slowly growing used to the pain, therefore settling, and the longing is only now showing its ugly face, also therefore settling.
She feels like puking when thinking about all of these sensitive emotions. Sorrow, hurt, longing. Things that she didn't even know before, but have now became an ugly part of her average life. Disappointingly enough, Acasea still hasn't managed to forget anything. Sometimes she considers throwing herself to the ground, letting her head crack open on a rock and allow amnesia to cloud her thoughts. Sure, she might not survive, but at least the memories of her mates and the day that she lost Delilah won't haunt her at night. At least she won't continuously be second guessing her father's words, zone out during the meetings or fall to the ground in pain. For the sorrow is a hurt like she has never felt before.
Technically, Acasea has never seen war before. But truthfully, she has practiced every day for this moment. Everything had a meaning and a reason in her life, and the ultimate goal was this. Everything from getting picked by her father to become the heir, to sitting inside studying every single detail there is to know about fighting and planning battles by heart. She knows everything, she probably knows better than the general, despite the lack of experience. But to her own disappointment, it still feels wrong. Acasea still feels like she is doing the wrong thing, no matter how much she has tried to convince herself otherwise.
And the sad truth is, if she had chosen to stay with her mates, she would still feel the same way. Constantly second guessing, wondering if it's the right thing to stay or leave, torn between two realities. Because that's exactly where she is. In between her mates and her father, in between what she wants to be and who she is. So as usual, Acasea goes with the safe choice. No matter how much it hurts.
"The honor is mine general, it's my first war after all"
Acasea acts polite and humble, but on the inside she's different. These pathetic Earth clan and demon dimension soldiers, and their weak generals and leaders should all be thankful that they are breathing the same air as her. People would call her prideful, egoistic, rude or just whatever suits the description. But Acasea knows that it doesn't matter if she's a little egoistical, or a very rude and prideful. It's who she is, and if anyone wants to complain, she'll gladly kill them.
The general is a relatively tall and muscular older man, with graying hair and big white eyes. His name is Frozen dagger, and Acasea almost laughed when she first heard his name. He is the most famous general after Azradan, who happily took over the position after him. Acasea doesn't really mind working with him during this war, but bad sides include his terrible breath and weird crooked smile. He isn't handsome to say the least, and he's old and wrinkly. It's shameful to admit, but Acasea almost misses her mates and friends god like appearances. It's better than whatever these soldiers are serving. The man smiles at her words.
