He wanted to keep his eyes on the road swear to god he did.
But how was he supposed to do that when the very thing that was always on his mind was sleeping right next to him resting her head on his shoulder.
What was wrong with him?
She was always there like white noise or the threat of a nuclear war, just always there.
He was losing his mind, when she wasn't touching him something felt off and he couldn't focus, when she was touching him it was like he was on fire, and let's face it there ain't no way you can focus if your on fire.
Suddenly the object of his affection stirred awake and lifted her head from his shoulder giving him a sleepy smile.
"How much longer till we get there?"
Daryl checked the radio clock
"Bout half an hour actually, perfect timing sleeping beauty."
She snorted "I could actually really go for an apple right now I'm starved."
"You're preaching to the choir back here sister" Merle added from the back
"God what id do for a cheeseburger right now."
"French fries with extra ketchup" carl and Tyreese went back and forth.
Daryl shook his head
"We got Half an hour we are not making any pit stops."
"Beth you make him stop to get us food he'll do whatever you want."
Carl stated. Merle snorted from the back seat as Daryl whipped around
"What are you.."
"Daryl!" Beth scolded "keep your eyes on the road."
He turned back to the road quickly causing all the men in the car to crack up as Daryl blushed and grumbled curses.
Beth hid her tiny smile telling the boys in the back "I agree with Daryl we can hold our Tummys until we get there, I wanna get there as soon as possible, if your all that starving there's a box of graham crackers in Judy's diaper bag."
They all rummaged through the bag moaning about how lame graham crackers were.
Daryl was still looking ahead at the road when he felt a tiny Hand on his bicep.
" you don't do everything I say Daryl. I mean you hardly do anything I say. " she giggled.
He smiled slightly
"I don't care what they say. Bunch a grown men fighting over a baby's graham crackers."
She smiled pecking his cheek.
He blushed bright red and squeezed the hand that was on his bicep in his own.
40 minutes later they arrived at the destination finding that they were the last ones there.
As they all piled out of the car Rick shook his head laughing as he jabbed Daryl in the side
"What took you so long grandma get caught up in your knitting you couldn't drive fast enough.."
Daryl smiled punching him in the arm, " no I just had three baby's instead of the one I was promised." Merle strode up behind him strutting past
"I resent that. Now where's this here market?"
Hershel walked over to the group giving Beth a peck on the head. Before saying
"It's right behind that moving truck. Now it's a bit of a fixer upper so don't be too excited."
They all grumbled in agreement before Hershel motioned for Eugene to move the truck.
As the truck moved out of the way the first thing they saw was
Pink.
The entire building was covered in bright pink paint.
As they all stared slack jawed at the bubble gum pink building he turned to see Beth giggling before slapping a hand over her mouth as her eyes watered trying to hold back the laughter.
"Okay so it needs to be painted."
Hershel added.
Suddenly the entire group lost it falling to the floor cracking up.
Beth grabbed onto Daryl's arm to steady herself as he shook with laughter.
Well this was a beautiful start to a beautiful new life.
