Daryl Dixon didn't grow up loved.
Hell Daryl Dixon didn't even grow up liked.
Growing up white trash was never easy on anyone but add beaten, abandoned and starved to the list and you've got one messed up childhood.
Will dixon hated his boys, almost as much as he hated there mama. The day Merle Dixon was born was the day his daddy took to drinking. The day Daryl was born was the day he took to beating. He never wanted kids , never wanted to knock up Abigail either but some things can't be avoided. Just like his belt.
Merle left home when Daryl turned eight, two years later Will took Daryl's mama and every last bit of food in the house and never looked back. That day Daryl came home from school and found nothing but his daddy's belt and an empty bottle of his mamas pills on his trailer floor. From that day on Daryl vowed to never be hungry, never be beaten and never to love a soul in his life.
Four years later found Daryl selling the rabbits he caught hunting to Mr.Grimes
"Now look at you, boy you must not be any older then my youngest. You got a mama I oughta talk to about the state of those hunting boots, not nearly sturdy enough to be hiking about these woods"
" no sir, s'just me, I reckon if you buy these rabbits here I can get me some new boots"
Mr.Grimes smirked at the boys quick wit and genuine skill.
"I'll buy em, ain't get much rabbit at that market June always shops at, you best come in meet my boy Rick. My oldest Shane went off with his mama."
Two months of rabbit and Daryl had himself a permanent bed at the Grimes household and a best friend in Mr.Grimes youngest Rick Grimes.
That was 12 years ago Daryl was 26 now and worked as the family butcher in some massive mega market Shane Grimes had invested his entire college savings into. Daryl never liked Shane Grimes, Rick always had dreams of being a cop or a Sheriff, but all that had to be put aside when Shane declared he couldn't run the market himself and it was family obligation for Rick and his family to help out. Instead of behind the wheel of a police car you would find Rick behind the wheel of a delivery van delivering fresh produce to the town folk, his wife Lori worked the florist department and there boy Carl was jut starting out as a bag boy.
The other employees were a cashier Carol, a Middle Aged woman with short gray hair and a broken expression, she was part of the "Turn Around" program Shane took part in giving ex criminals the chance to lead a normal life and have a normal job. She'd killed her husband after years of abuse and served sixteen years.
Glenn, was the landscaper he worked outside , cutting grass and planting flowers he was a pro at shaping the shrubs into abstract art pieces. He was younger but Daryl thought he was a cool kid with a big heart. Never could get a full story about his past but who was he to judge.
michonne and Tyreese were maintenance workers fixing any and all problems, he'd always found it weird how into there jobs they were you couldn't ever catch michonne smiling, but she got the job done. Tyreese always wore a bright smile but there was sadness there too.
The tiny restaurant in the market was run by Eugene and Rosita. Eugene loved to experiment with new foods and all of his scientific concoctions were a hit in there tiny town of Woodbury. Rosita was not the best waitress he couldn't count the amount of times her older boyfriend Abraham would have to pull her off a whiny customer, Abraham was always in the restaurant he claimed to want to keep a close eye on Eugene and make sure he didn't try anything with Rosita.
There were other cashiers like Sasha and Tara, but he didn't much know there story , only that Sasha had lost her boyfriend Bob to a bad case of food poisoning and she has never been the same.
As dysfunctional as they all were they were a family they couldn't be torn apart.
Well that's what they thought , until Shane called a staff meeting.
"You have all been fantastic employees and you know how much I appreciate you.."
His statement was met with grumbles as Daryl met Ricks eyes with a hidden smirk.
"That's why selling the market was such a difficult decision for me to make."
All eyes snapped up to focus on the man at attention
Well shit.
