They stayed like that for some time.
Her cheek pressed against his chest, tears wetting his black t-shirt.
When her breathing evened out he reached out to move her head from his chest cupping her face with both Hands.
"Tell me who's hurting you. I promise they won't hurt you again."
She closed her eyes pushing into the hand her cheek rested in.
She let out a shaky sigh
" zach, his ...his name is Zach he lives across our farm, he came back from college this year, and whenever I go outside to work on the animals he comes and ,well, he comes and "visits" me. He told me I should be grateful a guy like him wants to spend time with me, he's all experienced and I ain't one to complain considerin' I'm mousy and shy."
Daryl grit his teeth. He'd kill this boy.
"But then he started gettin' angry. I didn't wanna kiss him Daryl , I don't like him like that and all. Started talkin' about gettin' married. I'm only nineteen gunna be twenty in 6 days."
"So anyway he started hittin' me told me it was always us we was always gunna be the ones to get married."
She looked up at Daryl "I'd love to get married , just not to him." Her eyes watered.
Daryl grabbed her tiny hand in his rubbing her thumb over the back of his hand.
" hey listen angel I'm gunna fix this, and you're gunna be okay. You gotta leave that stuff behind."
She looked into his eyes
"What if I can't"
"Then it'll kill ya" he smiled
"And I can't let that happen. Then who's gunna bake me snicker doodles?"
She smiled a watery smile and let out the smallest giggle. Before she turned to him looking serious
"You don't have to do this Daryl, you could get hurt, not that I don't think you're strong and all that, but you don't have to go to all this trouble for me. It really ain't worth it."
He shook his head smiling.
"You ain't got a single clue how much you're worth Beth Greene"
She blushed bright pink.
"I could say the same thing for you Daryl."
He laughed
"I'm a redneck covered in pig blood, I'm surprised I don't got a line of girls proposin' to me. He teased
She laughed checking the clock
"Reds your color Mr.Dixon, we been here for a whole hour, best let you on your way. I will see you tommorow, g'nite Daryl.
He grabbed her arm as she turned to walk away.
"Next time you even catch sight or smell of the boy, you call me or text me I'll be there in two seconds flat."
She smiled softly
"I'll hold you to that Daryl."
"G'nite Beth Greene."
