New prompt, omg.

I'm not really one for all this zombie fad as of late, but I saw this and I just felt I had to write it.

It felt like a Kaitbrose moment.

I'm basically winging all my knowledge about zombies and all that jazz.

Person B has been bit by a zombie. Person B sits by person B's side and has one final conversation with them as they slowly succumb to the fever. After person B dies, Person A has to kill their brain to prevent them from coming back as a zombie. Bonus: Person C offers to do the deed for person A.

Stepping outside the base they called home, Dean sighed letting out a shaky breath before walking.

Taking a look around he observed his surroundings before slouching down to rest up against an abandoned car, thinking how different things were only several months before.

The world was normal until the outbreak, wiping out a good percentage of the human race into something that didn't seem real, only ever seeing them in movies.

Before this new life he was a SWAT officer, along with two other men who he called brothers.

He was used to war zones, but this was something different. But he had survived, that was until now.

His gaze went to his wrist, a ripped piece of cloth obstructing his view from the wound that was hidden underneath.

He didn't even realise that he had been bitten at first, then again he was running off of adrenaline when they were ambushed after going for supplies, saving her from those monsters before they got to her.

He had to alert everyone around them that he had been infected, and it was only a matter of time before he became one of them.

Not wanting to become like the monsters that were walking around, he requested to be killed off before the virus could even take over him entirely.

The group agreed, coming to terms that they were losing yet another person, they prepared for it as he accepted his fate.

"Hey.", her quiet voice cut through the silence around him, his head tilting up to look at her.

Even in this kind of world of darkness she was still beautiful, she was his light.

"Hey.", he replied back.

She looked down before she started shifting from one foot to another, kicking at the dirt underneath her boots. "I thought you might want some company before..y'know.", the brunette mumbled.

He simply nodded as she moved to sit beside him for one last time.

Silence fell between them as they stared up at the evening twilight, enjoying one another's company. The only thing what could be heard was Dean's spared breathing as the fever took over even more.

"I know I've said this a lot but thank you for all the times you saved me, if it wasn't for you I'd be..one of them.", the brunette spoke, her voice shaky.

Shrugging slightly, he waved it off. "You were in trouble, I wasn't going to let them get you."

Silence fell between them again as she acknowledged his answer.

"I never thought I'd be having to say goodbye to you.", she laughed uncomfortably, trying to hold her emotions intact.

He didn't respond, simply just turned his head slightly to look at her.

"It shouldn't be you. You've done so much for everyone, half of us wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for you. And now this.."

"Kait-"

"It shouldn't be you! It should be me, I should be the one.", she cried, her voice cracking.

He placed his hand on her cheek gently, wiping the tears away with his fingertips. "I would rather die then to see you become one of them. I did it to protect and save you. I care too much about you."

Those words gave her the confirmation that she wanted; he felt the same way about her as she did with him.

Dean was a man of very little words, somewhat emotionally detached and unexpressive. That's why he enjoyed doing his job, there wasn't any feeling involved, just the rush of adrenaline when he was called on the job. Apprehending criminals, having no remorse and doing whatever it took to take them down tactically.

But that day he heard her scream for help, it felt almost like a calling.

He would never have left anyone to get attacked but there was this underlying pull towards her what just told him to protect her whatever the cost; so he did.

Dean felt somewhat of an emotional attachment to Kaitlyn, he had expressed it in more ways than one.

Looking over at him she noticed his head lulled back slightly, his breathing fainter.

"Dean..?", Kaitlyn called out.

"Mmh."

"Do you think we would have ever..", she paused, hoping he knew what she was hinting at.

"...There's no one that I'd rather spend the rest of my life with, other than you.", he mumbled in reply, taking her hand in his.

Through her teary smile, she let out a sob. "I love you.", she said, her voice barely coherent.

"Love you too.", he rasped out before taking a final breath.

She stayed with him outside for awhile, until everyone came outside, hanging back with the exception of Seth who walked towards the two of them.

"Kaity, it's time.", he spoke softly.

She shook her head as she stared at the now lifeless body, "I..I can't do it.", she choked out. Looking back she looked up at the two tone haired man, tears still falling.

No words needed to be said, he understood her request.

He walked away, most likely stopping to find something to finish off his brother with as April and Dolph helped Kaitlyn up off the ground and guided her away.

Roman stepped forward, walking back with Seth to where the man they considered blood, their brother laid. Picking him up, they carried him away from the view of everyone else, giving a moment of silence for their fallen friend before killing him off completely.
