"Don't look" he warned.
Nani winced and closed her eyes in fear.
"Ok, calm down and look at me." She obeyed.
"This is going to sting but I have to do it." he warned, yet again. She whimpered, but she did as she was told. Janice covered her eyes and Kira started to suck out the venom from the wound. Nani's face started to return to it's original color, but his turned even paler. As soon as he was finished, he wiped the blood off of his mouth. Exhausted, he said: "Janice, take Nani to your house tonight. I have to do something."
"Kiyu, what's wrong? Are ya gonna go on another trip?" Nani cried.
"Yes, I have to go, but Janice will take care of you. Can you, Janice?" Janice nodded, Kira thanked her and left. Looking back one more time, he said: "Don't worry. I'll be back first thing in the morning."
Janice took Nani to her house and there, they read books and played some board games.
                              "He's never here." Nani mummered.
                              "Who?" Janice asked.
"Kira. He thinks I don't notice, but I know he leaves every night after I fall asleep. I wonder what he does?" Nani said.
"How do you think he gets the money to buy all the things you like and still care for you at day?" Janice remarked, wittingly.
"Well, I guess your right. I never thought of it that way. Thanks, Janice!" Janice smiled, as in reply. When Nani finally fell asleep, Janice went to look for Kira. After running out for two minutes, she found him.
"You took it, didn't you?'' he asked.
                              "What? ME?" Janice replied, shocked.
"Well it isn't a coincidence that I lost it tonight." he said, trying to hide his frustration.
"Why are you here anyways? Where's Nani?" he asked, trying to change the subject of the earlier conversation. "Sleeping. What are you accusing me of?" she replied.
"It's nothing." he mummured, staring at the floor.
"You lost it didn't ya? You lost the damn amulet." Janice guessed. He looked surprised, and then he realized: "Nani?"
"Yup." Janice held the Amuleto in her hand. Kira swiped it out of her hand and put it on.
On the way home, he said: "Pssh, you could've told me. I've been looking for it all day."
"Actually, I found in Nani's bedroom yesterday. I kept it to see if you'd notice. Then I asked her why it was there." she said.
"What did she say?" he asked, curiously.
"Actually, I told her to write a letter apoligizing to you and explaining why she took it. Here you go." she replied, handing him a letter. The hand writing was squiggly and hard to read, like that of a 7 year old. So, he figured it must be true. The letter read :
                              Dear Kiyu:
Sorry! I was just curious. You were always talking about how it's very special to our family. But I didn't get it. And that one time, I remember that I almost lost it, and you screamed at me. I started crying and you apologized. Is it THAT important? I mean, what makes it so great? Also, can you please tell me the TRUTH? I noticed I have stayed the same for quite a while. I noticed it about 2 years ago. I had a dream. Or, at least I think it was. I was being carried... by you. Suddenly, you stopped. You put me down and said: "Nani, I need you to put this on for me. Just for a little while. Ok?" You put that necklace (or whatever it was) on me. I thought it was mine to keep. When I was wearing it, I felt dizzy. But, I still thought it was pretty. I have a sudden feeling that that's were I stopped growing. Maybe it's just my imagination. But, can you help me understand? I won't get mad, promise! I'm just confused. Well, I hope you're not mad.
He looked up from the paper and said: "Let's head back."
