Is it true - tame impala

It was dark and cold outside when we got into Spencer's car. I had a strong coat on but the wind still found a way to get through it and chill me. The sky was so cloudy, most of the stars were invisible. Spencer's arm found its way around my shoulder as he pulled me close to him as we got into the car. We both had a small little bag in our hand that would be everything we would need. I really hoped I wasn't forgetting anything.

Spencer saw me ruffling through my stuff and he tilted my chin up to him, 'Hey, don't worry, we can get stuff when we get there.' I giggled as he planted a light kiss on my lips.

He ignited the car and we begin to drive. The time on my phone read 12:00, I could feel tiredness start to seep in but I didn't want to leave Spencer alone driving. 'So, where exactly are we going?' I pull up a map on my phone.

'Somewhere sunny, maybe some beaches.'

'You hate beaches.' He chuckles as he keeps his eyes focused on the road, his hand instinctively goes to my thigh.

'But you like them.' He says, his eyes go off the road for a moment to look at me. I smile back at him.

...

It wasn't long until Spencer's eyes started to flutter closed. I lightly slapped his face and he was alerted to the road. 'Spence! It's 4 am please pull over, let's get some sleep.'

He groaned as he turned into a little space on the side of the road. Spencer's car was an old truck with an open trunk in the back. We grabbed our blankets and got into the open back. I put a pillow beneath my head and cuddled up to Spencer's side. After driving for so long I was able to look up at the sky and I realized that the stars were now so much clearer and you could see them. I was going to tell Spencer but as I looked to my side I saw he was fast asleep. I stroked his cheek then closed my eyes. It was cold outside and I was scared of how much in the open we were but Spencer's soft breathing calmed me and before I knew it I was fast asleep.

...

'You don't wanna do this bud.'

I groan as my eyes flutter open, the outdoor light flooding in immediately. I look up to see Spencer talking to some guy, who's shirt is tattered and has such a dirty face. I sit up straight, alerted of the situation.

'Walk away.' Spencer pushes the man away and he stumbles off.

'Who was that?' I say, rubbing my eyes.

Spencer looks off as the man walks away, past rage obviously still in his eye, 'Some drunk homeless dude.' When he looks back at me his eyes soften, 'how do you feel about breakfast?'

'Yes please!' I gather up the stuff and throw it back into the truck before getting back in myself.

Something was off about Spencer after that interaction but I just assumed it was his overprotectiveness sparking so I ignored it. Plus my rumbling stomach made it hard for me to focus on anything else.

'You slept in.' My eyes widen.

'I did? Why didn't you wake me?'

'You're cute when you sleep.' He laughs as I playfully nudge him.

We do a drive-through breakfast and the food is surprisingly good which I immediately indulge in whilst hand-feeding Spencer since he can't eat while he drives. Crumb's spill on the floor as we eat and I attempt to pick some up whilst being fully aware some will remain under our chairs forever.

Birds seemingly clear a path as we drive as they fly away upon hearing our car engine. I open the window and let the wind tug on my hair as I smell the forestry. We are in the middle of nowhere, that can't be denied yet as the sun goes down I feel comforted seeing the colors paint the sky. Spencer is smiling but suddenly that smile vanishes, his face becomes confused.

'Spence, what is it?'

He slams his head down on the steering wheel as I realize our car is coming to a stop. 'Fuck!'

I groan and close the window, 'Did you forget to fill up?'

He looks down at the fuel gauge, 'Nope it's full.' He hits the steering wheel and climbs out to look in the front. I open my phone as he does so and see I only have one bar. I also climb out of the car to see what's happening. Spencer is hunched over the front. His hair is over his eyes and he looks stressed.

'Can you fix it?'

'I don't know Y/N. We might be fucked.'
