Daichi sat in his seat, completely shocked and dumbfounded at your initial announcement.
"I um...what!?" The shock carried over into his speech, and had completely taken him over. His eyes ran all over the room, looking for some sort of aid in his answer.
You looked to him, wanting an answer quickly. You could've waited, taken your time, or even just let him tell you instead.
But the overwhelmingness of the situation and the occasion that awaits took you by the horns and drove you into impulsivity.
That in which included your first act; running to Daichi with a heavy and important question at hand.
Would he be the one to share the court with you when you took your next step back on.
How would you even do such an act with another member of the team. No one knew your situation, or even you as a person better than he did. It would only be fitting for him to be the one to walk you back into the world of the competitive and exillerating sport of Volleyball.
If he didn't, it wouldn't feel right at all.
It wouldn't be right. No one else is Daichi. No one else shared your connections.
No one else could ever match the height and significance Daichi held above all and for you.
He looked to you from his scattered vision, seeming focused and tuned in, "Y/N...are you coming back to volleyball? For good?"
Answering your question with one of his own. A tactic he used too often to challenge your point of view, and even your reasoning.
He meant well when doing so, but now was just deception. He was trying to steer clear of answering probably the most determining question of the moment.
"Answer me first...please." The last words that left your mouth almost had an edge of plead in them, like you were trying to hide the slight hint of desperation in your voice.
Daichi looked to you, over you more or less. He couldn't face you with the thoughts he tried to form words around.
You stood on the edge of your toes, in anticipation.
Your thoughts screamed simply: Damn it Daichi! Just tell me!
The tapping sensations you created with your heel to the ground shook your core as the rhythm only increased as Daichi dragged out his answer.
He did this often, only to spite you most times. Yet this time wasn't for fun.
He simply didn't know how to tell you what he was thinking. Some days in this instance, it was up to you to beat it out of him.
"Sawamura!" You yelled, which caused him to jump on his seat, and look to your beady and aggressive eyes.
No one could make you wait, or have as much patience anymore.
That all has sailed. Daichi should know better.
"I....can't be your partner..." you had beat the answer out.
Yet it wasn't the answer you were looking for. You didn't believe him for a second.
"You're...joking right?" You asked, and slowly approached his desk.
"No...someone from the girl's team had already asked. I didn't know about your status, so I took up their offer."
Fair enough. You didn't know your thoughts yet. But it wasn't like Daichi to leave you out until you made it back in.
