The whistle blew loud and clear, the sound rang inside your eardrums and shook every loose nerve in your body. They had already been tired as you played out the rest of the third set.
You felt your body leaning forward, about to pounce, dive or slide at any moment. Any moment you saw that ball travel over the net, you would be ready for or it.
The tips of your toes kept you stable, while your heels lifted off the ground, ever slightly. You weighed out your body on both ankles, your arms bent infront of your torso.
You watched as he readied his serve, making beeline eye contact straight to you.
You adjusted your position, slowly rocking back and forth for smooth motion.
He served the ball over the net, with a kind of intensity only harsh words could produce. It shouldn't be humanly possible to produce such brute force.
The ball travelled down the side line, almost reaching the intersection between the side and end line.
This wasn't a ball you were giving up. You ran, both arms out, and rocketed the ball high and off the net, a perfect ball for any second touch.
Sugawara watched as your passed slowed time, and graced the air with seconds of time. He positioned himself, angling towards the outside position, and set a high out.
The ball was almost crossing the point of contact to the antenna, when you came flying through the air, and gave Johzenji a fast snap cross attack. The moments between the impact of your hand and the ground couldn't have been measured. It was that's accurate.
12-6 , Karasuno (3rd set)
You landed with a celebration, giving Sugawara a semi high ten, your arms bent and close. He smiled to you, and gave you a back pay as you went back to serve.
You took the ball, and gave it a few bounces. You then spun it over your palm, letting the ball slide against your skin, rolling with motion. You then gave it a good hit, roaring the sound. You brought it close to you, eyed him through the edge of the ball and your eyes.
I see you Yuji. This one's for you...
You toss up the ball, giving a nice spin. You take your steps, and jump high. You make hard contact with the ball, sending it down the middle of the court and just before the end line.
Terushima had assumed it was out. He never thought any ball that was close to the end line would be in. He was always right in his assumptions during middle school.
He hadn't seen the improvement since then. How you defy his odds.
13-6 , Karasuno.
Terushima eyed the ball, as if had bounced from the line, and rolled to the far wall. He went to get it, not before he said something under his breath.
"Maybe this is where "Line Queen" came from..."
Faintly as he said it, you heard almost word for word his realization. The nickname was always given to a Izumitate Volleyball player when they served any kind of line. Back in middle school, he couldn't stand how many times the players would try to serve line, but fail with an out serve. Only a few had the gift.
He never got over how you could hit line, whether it was side or end, every time. Sometimes it would sneak over the net, simply infront of the attack line.
He never wanted to believe you fit the role, but the game never lied. He never liked it.
As he forwarded the ball back under, and rolled to your feet, you headed back for another serve.
