Bill just sat there, watching you sleep. Dream demons didn't need sleep so there really was no point in him sitting there with you. An idea popped into his head and just like that he entered your mindscape.
Your mindscape was a small house, quite opposite of your real house. Once he went inside it was almost like a library. It was huge despite the outlook of it. There were big windows letting what you would assume the light shine in. There wasn't much to look at down here. There was a fireplace and two chairs next to it, in the middle was a small coffee table. There was a small stack of books. After Bill looked around a bit he saw that there were many stacks of books on the floors and counters. Almost like the whole thing was filled with books
He ventured upstairs trying to find the doors, and low and behold there they were. Each door and vines on it holding a sign of what he would see in there, one saying hopes, one saying memories, and the last one saying fears.
He laughed at the sight and quickly made his way through, before he opened the door he looked over to the door right next to it. "memories" it said in all lower case. Vines covering both the door and sign. He let go of the doorknob leading to your fears and went to your memories instead.
He opened the door, not really knowing why. He wants to see your fears to torment you while you sleep, doing what a dream demon does best, giving people nightmares. But instead, he opted to go inside your memories. He really didn't know why, he was just curious about you. Anyways he had all the time in the world to go through your fears, you're stuck with him for a while.
As he ventured in he saw many doors, not really knowing what to expect. He knew the basics about you from ///////, you were lonely, no one really remembered you, but he was still interested. What do you do when you're alone, what do you even do with all this free time. He floated all the way to the back trying to find anything interesting. As he began opening all the doors he realized something crucial. You were...
Incredibly boring.
All you did was read and go to school, maybe do some tasks here and there but besides that nothing ever happened. You lived a normal and quiet life. Yes this was the reason why Bill picked you, so he did expect some of this. But your whole life was so boring.
He opened a whole bunch of doors going through last year when you were 8. He sighed thinking to himself that this would be the last door he opened before going to your fears. He opened it watching the scene play out for him.
It was after school, you were waiting for someone to pick you up, but as always no one came. You let out a small sigh, knowing they wouldn't come, knowing they never came. You began walking home, giving your teacher a small goodbye as she was talking to another staff member, not giving you a second glance.
As you began walking home you tripped over something, landing headfirst into the ground. Bill bursted into laughter after watching you fall. Tears started to flow down your eyes, making Bill laugh even more.
You got up and rubbed your eyes, stopping the tears. You looked down at what made you trip and saw something pointy out of the ground. You looked around trying to see if anyone was around and began to dig it up with your hands.
Bill's laughter died down, as he wiped a tear from his eye and began watching you once again. He floated over to where your small body was and watched as you grabbed dirt in your hand and threw it somewhere else.
After a while, you managed to see half of what it was. A book! You grabbed it using both hands and started to pull it out. At first, it didn't budge but then you stood up trying once more. With that you managed to get the book out and fell once more, this time landing on your bottom. Bill stood there taking a closer look at the book, 'Holy smokes this kid found one of the journals!' he thought to himself, 'maybe you're more useful than I thought you were, kid'.
You got up and brushed the dirt off of you. You finally got a better look at the book. On it was a hand with 6 fingers and a number 2 written on it. You smiled, finding a new book that looked mysterious and you couldn't wait to read it. That day you ran home, you didn't even greet your parents, not like they cared. You quickly opened a cabinet under the sink and got some disinfecting wipes and began to clean the book as best as you could.
Bill just stood there in shock, thinking to himself about how an 8 year old found something he was looking for, for forever. This could be his way to a new body, maybe old Six Fingers figured a way. He quickly ran out of that door, running out of all your memories.
Once he made it out he let out a loud laugh, this was it, all he needed was to get his hands on the book.
He was about to go back downstairs before remembering he had one more door to open. He couldn't care less about your hopes, he was more interested in your fears. As he made his way back to the fear door, he realized on these vines there were thorns. He flew back a bit to look at the other doors. The doors labeled 'hope' had little flowers on them, while 'memories' didn't have anything out of the norm. He did notice there were more vines on that door than the others.
He shrugged off that discovery and opened the fear door. There were the typical spiders and clown trope but he was looking for something more, something worse. Something that would make you wake up in a cold sweat. He roamed around, stomping on an occasional spider here or there. There wasn't much to work with.
As he made his way farther into the room something caught his eye. There was another door in the far back with a sign saying 'keep out' written on it. He quickly reached it and grabbed the doorknob, he pulled and pulled but the door didn't budge. He tried once more this time thinking about opening up the door. Somehow that didn't work.
Bill was slowly getting more and more frustrated. He grabbed the doorknob and broke it right off. Another doorknob popped up in its place. He threw the old one out of frustration. He was in your mindscape but he was a dream demon. He should have the upper hand. He did have the upper hand, but it wasn't working. He tried once more before pouting like a small child. He quickly ran out of the room getting tired of seeing the 'keep out sign' and having the spiders fall on top of him.
He was about to leave your mindscape but something told him to go inside the door labeled 'hopes'. He stopped right in front of it, on his left were the stairs and in front of him was a sign with fancy cursive saying 'hopes'. He just stood there, wondering what he should do.It would benefit him in any way and he really didn't care. Sure he was bored but there probably wasn't anything interesting in there. He rolled his eye mumbling a small 'stupid' under his breath and opened the door.
Once he opened the door a flash of light hit his eye, making him flinch away and cover his eye with his hand. There were a few doors in here, between the doors there were books, piles on piles of books. He rolled his eye at the sight, thinking 'Bookworm'. He opened the first door, only to see the same bright light, this time it was yellow-ish. After his eye got used to the bright light, he was able to see a mixture of orange, pink, and yellow in the sky. He looked up at it in awe, feeling a bit at peace. He kept looking until he heard some giggles coming from right in front of him. He recognized the soft giggles, it was you. You were laughing and smiling with... someone?
The person next to her had messy blond hair, golden yellow eyes, and a smile almost resembling hers. He took a closer look at the two, she was wearing a yellow summer dress with flowers covering it and he had a black undershirt with a yellow vest on top. He had a small top hat and a little bow on as well. Bill cheered to himself thinking 'damn this dude has good style'. He rolled his eyes at the sappy sight. They were holding hands on a picnic blanket, books, and a small picnic basket on the blanket as well. 'God this girl,' he noticed you had a small flower crown on top of your head, it was poorly made sure but you didn't seem to mind, 'right out of the movies'.
He quickly ran out both doors and flew downstairs. He wanted to throw up due to that sappy moment he just saw. 'Humans are weird weird creatures' he finally left your mindscape sighing, sitting back down at your pillow. He looked out the window slowly watching the sun come up, 'especially you, (y/n)'
