A month has gone by with Adam next to me. How long? Even on weekends, he sticks to my side. We have begun to fight a lot. But shouldn't he trust me? Trust me enough to let me breathe? I have no privacy. I can't even hang out with Harry alone.
"Macy, hey!" I said as I entered Adam's office on a Monday. I have stopped keeping track of time. it's of no use. Adam will be here nonetheless.
"Oh, hi. I have your coffee here, sir. Ma'am, will you take anything?" She asked me. Usually, I don't take anything when I come to his office. But she asks me anyways. I actually like her. "Yeah actually. But I can get it myself. Thanks anyway," I tell her. "Oh, no ma'am. It's fine. Just tell me. I will get it for you." "Ok, I'd like a Cappucino and a cinnamon roll," She nods and goes out.
Ten minutes have gone by. Macy's not back yet. The cafeteria is not far from here. What's taking her so long? Adam calls Macy when he also realized that Macy is missing. Her line goes dead after a few rings. Why do these chills appear every time someone doesn't pick up my call? I thought. I have become a pessimist. If someone doesn't pick up my call, I get so anxious that it drives me crazy. Macy, just show up!
A few minutes later, Adam's phone rings. "Hello?... Yes... Oh no... Right, I'll be there," Adam says. "Um, I have a meeting and I have to go. Can you behave or...?" Adam asks, regretfully. My eyes widen. Is he leaving me alone? Voluntarily? I thought. "Uhm, yeah, I'll-uh, I'll behave."
He plants a kiss on my forehead and leaves. I open his window and take in a deep breath. "So, that's how freedom smells!" I talk to no one in particular. I wander around in his office for a few minutes. Then I decide to get that coffee and roll myself. Hopefully, Macy will be there waiting for them to fix the machine or something I hoped. I took my stuff from his couch and made my way to the cafeteria. I entered the cafeteria and give my order to go. Once I have my drink and snack I made my way back to the office. I can't think of another place to go. Wait! Call Harry I thought. I called Harry and asked him if he wanted to hang out without Adam. Even he sounded surprised but agreed.
Soon I was at the Central Park with Harry. We kinda had a picnic and then I returned to Adam's office. Adam was back by the time I reached. When I entered his office, he marched towards me and checked my wrist. My smile faded and anger took over. I snatched my hand away from him and said, "What the hell is wrong with you?" "I have to make sure you don't harm yourself. I am not taking any risks when it comes to you, Amy. Where were you today?" He asked. "Fuck off, Adam!" I scoffed and stormed out of his office with him tailing me. I called a cab and drove off before he could reach me.
I entered the apartment with tears. I can't believe him. He thinks he can just toy around with me like that! I thought. I threw my bag somewhere and laid on the couch. My eyes felt heavy and I needed something to drink. I got up and got myself some vodka. "Long time, old friend!" I said to my Vodka. Less than an hour later, I was drunk. Suddenly my doorbell struck. I opened the door for Adam. Who else would it be at seven in the evening? Once the door was open I stumbled and fell on Adam. Everything was a bit blurry but I could make out that he was crying. "What happened? Are you feeling sorry for me?" I said with my shaky voice.
"No. Macy's gone."
