Harry was flabbergasted once I finished telling him everything. "W-wait! Adam can't be. He helped you so much. How can he-?" Harry ranted. He just said everything I've been thinking about for the last hour.
"Hey, Harry? Do you-," Adam entered the room with a subway takeout in his hands. He stopped when he saw us crying. "Amy, when did you come back? What did they say? Do they have a lead?" "They... they just wanted to ask me about Macy and Lewis," I lied. How can I tell him? I can't! Adam nodded his head and handed me Harry's sandwich. "Sorry, I didn't know you'd be here, else I would have gotten one for you," Adam said guiltily. I shook my head and told him it's alright. He smiled and sat next to me. I shifted away from him. What is he doing? Why is he behaving like this? Like everything's ok between us? I thought.
"You never take the sweet onion sauce," I pointed out when some of his sauce dripped from the sandwich. "Oh, yeah! I-um-I is just trying it. Just curious," He said. "But you did try it, a while back when I put it in mine. Why now?" "Gosh, Amy! I liked it, ok? Why are you being so suspicious?" Adam snapped. "Me? I am?" I asked pointing to myself.
"Yeah, you. Amy, I don't know why you've distanced yourself. I love you, you know that, right?"
"NO, I DON'T KNOW, ADAM! How can you behave so normally after everything you've done? How can you NOT remember accusing me of cheating on you, and that too with HARRY? And then you have the audacity to stalk us?"
"Fucking hell, Amy. When did I do that? I don't know!"
"Of course, you don't. Do you remember accusing me of killing Macy? Huh? Do you remember telling me that you have nothing to do with me? Do you remember being done with my shit?"
Harry reached out for my hand and rubbed it lightly. Adam was still next to me, crying. Where did all the anger come from? I knew I messed up. But I am not sorry. He needed to hear that. And if he did kill my friends, I won't be able to handle it, I know. "Wait, I did not stalk you!" Adam said suddenly. "Yes, you did! Stop lying!" Harry scoffed. I was too overwhelmed to say anything.
"No, I did not! I was in the office the whole day. I couldn't have," Adam defended. "So, you mean to tell me that both of us are lying?" Harry said waving his hand between himself and me. I just silently listened. "Yes! I was in the office. You can ask Logan," Adam said. Harry scoffed again and went back to comforting me. "Water?" My voice came out quite sore and raspy. My eyes hurt from crying and I want to sleep. But I know better than to leave Harry alone with Adam. "HOLY SHIT!" I cried when I dropped the cup being handed to me by Harry. "I'll do it," Adam offered. "NO! I don't need your help," I said, emotionless. I called for the nurse and started dabbing my jeans with some tissue. "Ma'am, you just have ten minutes until visiting hours end," The nurse said after cleaning up. "Yeah, I know!"
"Harry, can I stay tonight?" I asked once the nurse was out. "Yeah, I'd like that," Harry said and smiled. Adam just stood there. I know I am saying this a lot, but I am NOT leaving Harry alone with Adam. Not after what I heard.
Adm left without any objection. I texted my parents that I'll be staying with Harry in the hospital.
