Jimena Castillo was a unusual girl. By day she was shy, quiet, and composed, but almost every night she goes into the basement of her Cuban home, to try and control her powers. She finds comfort in this routine, but what happens when she is sold for...
Unnaturals have been around for decades, almost a century. There are many different kinds, the ones you hear about from, stories, unicorns, griffins; but there are other kinds, too. Shifters, who can copy the appearance of any animal they know or person they've seen.
These Unnaturals are dangerous, for the most part. My mother and father, though, try to see the best in these people. Take care of these people. They give them shelter and rehabilitation lessons, and I am the daughter of two equality activists. I had amber/red eyes and warm skin, and pointed ears, and I live on the island of Cuba with my parents.

I was the calmer sort of girl at school, always dressing to fit in, keeping my head down, but most of my nights were spent in the basement of my house.
Like tonight, for example.
"What will you be tonight?" Asked my father, back from his day of rehab for Zannies. "A tigress, if I can manage it." I said, first the ears. I thought, and my hearing sharpened. I reached up to touch my ears, and they where velvety. "How do they look Papa? Are they ears of a tiger?" I asked, and he nodded, smiling enthusiastically. "Now... the tail." I said, and something furry came out of the small of my back. I turned, seeing a striped tail with a white tip. "Paws..." My father said, amd my Slender fingers turned into large cat paws. "And the body." I said, closing my eyes.
When I opened them I was lower to the ground, looking at my father, who held up a mirror. I was a tiger! I pranced around, paws silent on the concrete floor. I shifted back, reversing the process and smiling. "I did it!" I squealed, and practiced shifting faster and faster until my father went to bed. When I looked back at the clock it read 12:34 A.M.
I went to bed, stretching and gaining satisfaction when my bones made a pop sound. I glanced out my window and saw a figure on the street. Shrugging it off, I closed the curtains and lay back.
