I heard Nita gasp- it was soft but it was there. I looked at the man, he had unnatural white streaks in brown hair, a vampire, no doubt. "Judging by your expression, the name Monica rings a bell." The vampire said, leaning closer to Nita.
"I told you, if you want to talk to the merchandise you have to-" Reyes waa cut off as the vampire held up a finger to silence her. "Tell me.... what do you know of Monica's current whereabouts?" The vampire asked, and I could sense Nita's heartbeat. "I'm afraid you've been warned." Reyes said, and Jorge went to grab him, only for the vampire to whoosh away. Lorenzo grabbed a flashlight and pointed a purple beam at the vampire.
UV lights are like sunlight to vampire, who are photosensitive. The vampire grunted and hissed, and Reyes seemed pleased. "I had the, procure special UV lights in case we reached any sort of misunderstanding." Reyes explained, and Kovit smiled gleefully. I faintly smelled burning flesh.
"As I said: you where warned." Reyes said. "Now then, shall we discuss purchase options?" Reyes asked, and the vampire looked murderous. I didn't know if I hoped he attacked her or not.
"Of course..... purchase options would be satisfactory." He drawled, casting one last look at Nita and walking away. Mirella's cell door opened with a buzz, and she was harshly taken from the cell. "What are you doing to her?" Nita asked, and I held my breath.
"She caused some trouble before." Lorenzo stated, "We even had to put her under to remove her eye." My eyes widened. "Uh- duh! You were removing her eye, what did you expect?" I asked, and at the same time Nita yelled, "Where are you taking her?!"
"The workroom." Lorenzo answered, and my stomach rolled. "Resistirse e la señora nunca quede impuna." Jorge said. Resisting Señora Reyes never goes unpunished. "What?" I asked in a startled whisper.
"Too true." Lorenzo said. "What will her punishment be?" I asked, I had seen people from black markets, subjected to cruelty. Torture, rape, and whipping are not uncommon. "Kovit, of course." Jorge said. My churning stomach dropped as they took her away.
A few minutes later screaming started, I covered my ears and began crying, trying to distract myself. "¿ Y túe qué pensaste, que yo me iba ya a morir." I sang as hot tears rolled down my face. "Le venganza en dulce ¿sabes? Muy dulce.
La noché y tú, la noché y tú, viva le Luna enamorda. Y al contemplarla en su mirada, me hace Soñar. Fasciasción. Revelación que me exstasía, rere esplendor de fantasía." I sang, slightly louder to drown put the screams of pain and terror.
"Que vive en ti." I finished, but the screams wrang in my ears, so I repeated the song, slightly louder. As time went on I heard a soft thud from Nitas cell. It continued over amd over until Nita began to pant. "Nita.... what are you doing?" I asked. "If I can figure out how to knock someone out, I can get us out." She said, "Maybe you should try to learn as well." She said.
"It wouldn't matter much. I'm pretty sure people try to avoid entering my cell. I might turn into a tiger and slash them." I said. The screams continued and the tears returned, and I covered my ears. I heard the rustle of fabric and a thud against Nitas glass wall.
After a few moments there was a creak and Kovit returned, pulling Mirella along; he looked healthier than before.

I brought Dolphin Girl back to the cells, and risked a glance at Jimena. I don't know why, but this girl, this shape-shifting, poker playing girl, caught my attention. She didn't meet my gaze, I couldn't even see her eyes, but I saw tears stream amd fall from her chin, hitting her hands thag where clasped in her lap.
I wanted to go in there and talk to her, but she would probably turn into something that could eat me. I remembered she was the child of peacekeepers, she knew what someone could go through in a black market. I felt bad for this girl, and as I looked st the healing cut on her wrist, a wou d I caused, it got worse.

"Kovit." Nita said, "Can I have some water?" Nita asked, and Kovit looked at her, then me. He met my gaze with onyx eyes, and I shrugged. "Sure." He said, walking away. I heard a crunch and a rip from Nitas cell, making, e wonder what she did this time, and Kovit came back, with two waterbottles, putting one in my cell, before heading to Nitas.
He tugged at the place the food goes in and out, several times before kicking it. "Is it jammed or something?" I asked, pressing ,y hands against the glass. "I think it's broken." Nita said.
"We'll have to move you to a different cell while we repair it." Kovkt said, and I tapped the glass. "Can she go to one I can see, I'd like to be able able see her." I asked, and Kovit shrugged. "Wait, Kovit." Nita said, and Kovit paused. "My water." Nita said, sounding desperate.
Kovit sighed. "Fine." He said, "Back of the cage, hands where I can see them." Kovit said, opening her door. "Here." Kovkt said, tossing the water in. I heard a rustle of fabric and a snap, and witn a thud Nita and Kovit hit the floor. Kovit's knife flicked out, but Nita hit a nerve and he passed out, eyes rolling into the back of his head.
Nita stood up, panting, and tears welled in my eyes. Was he okay? Why did I care? Was Nita going to let me free? Was that blood? I wondered, looking at Nota for the first time in a week. I realized this was the first time, she saw me. Mirella hit the glass of her cell.
"Um, Nita." She said. "Geg us out of here!" I yelled, bouncing lightly. I must admit, I get cabin fever rather quickly, amd being so close to freedom makes it worse. "Right." Nita said, opening Mirella's cell door then mine, and I rushed out, smiling. My smile faltered when I looked at Kovit.
"What do we do with Kovit?" I asked, and Nita put Kovit in her cell. "Is he dead?" Mirella asked, amd my blood ran cold. Despite everything he did, I hoped he wasn't too injured. I heard the faintest of breaths. "He's alive." I said gratefully, leaning against Nita. "Good." Mirella said. "How so?" I asked.
"I want Reyes to find him. However she kills him will be worse than what we could do." She said, and my heart stopped. "But he'll get a fate worse than what he did. He may have done bad things, but nobody deserves whatever Reyes can dish up. Except for Boulder, amd Reyes herself." I said, earning two strange looks.
"Come on. We have to go." Nita said, and we walked cautiously around around unfamiliar building. "I don't hear anyone." I said, ears tuned for any sound. "You're limping." Nita said, and I placed Mirellas arm around my shoulder. "No shit." Mirella said.
"Tell me what's behind those doors." Nita ordered. "The door at the end of the hall, I don't know, the door on the left..." Mirella trailed off. "The workroom. It reeks of blood." I stated, sneezing. "And the door closest to us..." Mirella didn't finish the sentence again. "Escape. I smell the rainforest, and hear the jungle." I said, ears twitching.
