"From the moment they arrived, I knew they weren't from here." Kovit began. "Hold on, you turned in your own mother?" Nita asked him. "I'm guessing she was a Zannie too?" Nita asked. "When my sister found out she was furious. She took me and hid me in the floorboards. I watched as they took her away." He said. "You were scared, weren't you?" I asked softly. "Pain isn't the only emotion I'm capable of feeling." Kovit said. "I never said it was." I replied, looking him in the eye. "What about your sister?" Nita asked.

"She must have been so afraid." Nita said. "Afraid, yes I imagine.... but not for herself." Kovit said. "She's not a Zannie like me and my mom." Nita seemed shocked. "What?" She asked. "It comes from a recessive gene, like blonde hair. My sister didn't get it." Kovit said, "My sister and my father are both normal humans. It made family dinners pretty awkward, as yu can imagine." He said, and I cut in. "It's similar for shapeshifters. It skipped a generation my dad's side, so my grandma was a shifter too." I stated.

"Why did you turn your mother in?" Nita asked. "What about you? Someone must have turned you in to whom do we owe this pleaure?" Kovit asked Nita and I, but his gaze was mostly focused on me. "I don't know. I was careful about it." I said, hugging my knees to my chest. Nita whispered something. "Couldn't hear that." Kovit pressed. "My mother." Nita admitted. "Mothers, huh?" Kovit said, smirking, but it was somewhat forced. "You said pain was an emotion. It's not- it' a sensory response." Nita said.

"A bit of an expert on the subject, I can tell you emotions hurt too and some pains are amplified by your thoughts." Kovit stated, "when you decide to turn your pain circuits back on, do you really think only physical pain will come back?" Kovit asked her. "You'll feel upset too." I realized. "You'll feel the pan and wonder how your mother could turn you in. How she could put her flesh and blood through that kind of pain."

There was a cream and Reyes came back in with Lorenzo and Jorge holding a limp Mirella. I kind of thought she got sold. I looked closer and saw one of her eyes wrapped in bloody gauze, and my stomach tightened. "There you are Kovit." Reyes said, "I have a treat for you." Kovit stood and shoved the cards in his pocket, and I hid mine in the waistband of my jeans.

"I said I have a great for you. I thought you'd be more grateful." Reyes said, and Mirella was placed in her cell. "Oh, Ms. Reyes, I am." Kovit said. "I see her fingers are still attached." Reyes said. "She opted for torture." I said, covering for them both. "You don't look like you ate much." Reyes commented. "I ate when you left. That was hours ago." Kovit said, following along. "However, if you want me to eat more i'd be delighted to oblige." Kovit smiled, looking at Nita. "Good. I was hoping you'd say that." Reyes said. "After this batch of customers, you'll have quite the present indeed."

"Customers? Now?" Kovit asked, and by my internal clock it was three A.M. "Precisely." Reyes said with a smile. "Won't you be a gentleman and join me?" Reyes asked. Maybe if you where a lady. I thought, and Kovit looked at us, bowing slightly. "Thanks for the entertainment, but kt spunds like my dinner awaits." Kovit said. "Technically breakfast, It's three A.M. The witching hour." I said, smirking, and Kovit smirked back before skipping out.

"Mirella..." Nita trailed off. "Are you okay?" She finished. "What kind of stupid question is that?" Mirella asked. "You're right. I didn't mean-" Nita couldn't finish her sentence. "No te preocupes." She said, "One day, I'm going to kill him." Mirella promised. "Don't. Then You'll be no better than Reyes." I stated, and Reyes came in with her customers. "How was your flight?" The queen of parts asked. "16 heures we Lyon at deux bébés qui crient. It was fine." The customer said. "Hey, nice hair." Kovit commented sarcastically to one, who hissed in response. A vampire.

"Is this it? The newest products?" A lady asked, looking at both of us. "Kovit. Demonstrations?" Reyes asked, and Nitas cell door clicked open while I shifted into a wolf. "I heard shifters could make themselves look like other people. Is this true?" A man asked, and I nodded. A hit of focus and I looked like, Reyes, then Kovit, then Mirella, and back to myself. Thankfully, Kovit didn't see this demonstration, as he was taking another sample of Nita.

I had gotten used to the scent of blood.

"Show them." Reyes ordered, and the scent disappeared slowly. "Incredible." The lady said. "I hadn't quite believed. You know how good video editing is these days." The man said. "It's no trouble. Perhaps we can retire to my office and discuss a price-" Reyes was cut off as the vampire stared intently at Nita. "What's you name?" He asked. "Nita." She responded. "Nita.... tell me, Nita, have you ever met anyone with he same ability as you? A friend, a relative?" He asked her. "Excuse me." Reyes cut in. "If you wish to question the subject, you have to purchase her first."

"How much?" He asked, and my blood turned to ice. "We can negotiate." Reyes promised. "I would like to know, however, have you ever met a woman named Monica?" He asked, and Nita's breathingnbecame slightly irregular. "Though she might have called herself something else. White, about 5'7, black hair with white streaks." He described. "You see, this Monica, she has the same ability as you."
