Careful, Jim, don't sympathize. It'll make things harder. I told myself, biting my lip and clenching my fist. Judging by the look on her face, Nita was thinking something similar; I glanced at Kovit, meeting his black eyes, and darted my eyes away immediately. "Are you always this quiet?" He asked, and I shook my head. "No, she is not." I muttered under my breath, and Kovit looked at me before his gaze flickered back to Nita. "Nita?" He asked. Nita's gaze darted around, and her hand twitched, an eerie smile spreading across her face. I inched away slowly.

"We could play poker again. You just have to redraw one of my beautiful cards." Kovit said, and I rushed out, trying to get away from this conversation, at least for a few minutes. I had no clue what would happen if I left them alone too long. I looked on Kovits' desk and found blank, unlined index cards, probably the leftovers from the ones he used for the other cards. I grabbed the ones he drew, for reference, and heard faint voices. I walked back and sat back against the glass of Nit- Kovits cell, drawing a new deck of cards.

"So, who threatened who while I was gone, and how?" I asked, drawing the cards. "Nita said she was figuring out how to dissect me." Kovit admitted, and I glared at Nita. "Please don't." I spat, and she seemed.... alarmed? "I like to dissect things. I need to dissect things." She said, pressing her fingertips to the glass, and Kovit backed away, just a step, "My mom used to bring me all sorts of bodies," Nita continued, "Kappas, mermaids, Zannies too. Lots of Zannies" She said, smiling, and I scooted away. I trusted Nita, but dissection talk alarmed me, just a little.

I almost felt pity for Kovit, he kept us company, played poker with us, and It's because of him Nita still has her fingers. But how many people has he tortured? How many times did her torture Mirella to make her cower like she did? A voice wondered. Nita huffed, pressing her fists and forehead to the glass. "Have you decided?" Kovit asked, "To dissect, or not to dissect?" He wondered aloud. "Is that an attempt at Hamlet?" I asked him.

"I wasn't trying to reference anything." He said, and Nita looked as alarmed as I felt. "When did I cross into serial killer territory....?" I heard her mutter. "Well?" Kovit asked. "Nita, please don't." I asked, reaching out to touch her arm. She flinched away and looked at Kovit. "I'm not going to dissect you." She said. "Excellent choice." Kovit replied, and I almost smiled. "Reyes will decide what to do with you." Nita said, walking away, and my stomach dropped. I looked at Kovit, who was focused on Nita. "Is that supposed to make me feel better?" He asked, and Nita didn't look back.

"I think.... She was trying to make herself feel better. She thinks of she lets Reyes have you..... She knows you did... something traumatic to Mirella, and since Mirella isn't here anymore, she wants to get you back for it herself.... kinda." I said, crossing my arms. "When did you become a psychologist?" Kovit asked, and I shrugged. "A lot of the people my parents rescued from black markets had similar.... issues. It's actually pretty common. A lot of them don't let it go for a while." I said, walking after Nita.
