"What are you doing?" Nita asked, and I covered my ears, but I heard Reyes prep her gun, and I pressed my palms and face against the glass. I heard rapid footsteps and I heard Nita yell in pain, and I smelled blood. I heard Kovit sigh in bliss, and I swallowed bile. I heard a thud, and figured Nita fell over. "You stopped it." Kovit said, sounding surprised. "Stopped what?" Nita and I asked in unison. "You stopped the pain." Kovit said, and I glanced at Mirella, who met my gaze. "Come out now, Kovit." Reyes said, "You can play with it later. We have what we need." She finished, and the black haired boy marched out.

"Look how fast the wound clotted." Reyes said, sounding impressed. "Exactly as promised." She said with a smile. "Good job. It's all on camera, the angle was perfect." Reyes told Kovit, who replied, "Oh, Ms. Reyes, it was my pleasure." He said. "I'm sure it was." Reyes said, and I frowned. As the black haired boy walked past my cell, I looked him in the eye, calm and collected.

As I walked past Jimenas cell, she looked me in the eye. I didn't see fear, or anger, I saw.... pity. She pitied me. ME, a Zannie? I wondered. What's wrong with her?

I heard a sniffle and Nita began crying. I heard it. "Are you okay?" Mirella asked, and I tried to see her. "Nita?" I asked. "I don't want to talk now." She said, and I nodded. Understanding that she might be scared. "I'm sorry." Mirella said, sitting down. "I should have warned you about the Zannie. But don't worry, Reyes keeps a tight leash on him. Can't let monsters like that roam free." Mirella said. "Kovit." I blurted, and I heard Nita question me. "His name is Kovit. Calling him "the Zannie" makes it sound like he isn't a person. A slightly fucked up person, but still, he isn't a monster." I said, laying on the floor.

"Is that why we're here? Because we're monsters?" Nita asked, and neither of us responded for a moment. "We're here because we're for sale. That's different." Mirella said, and a door creaked loudly. "People seem to come in and out a lot." Nita commented, and I began sipping the water. "I don't know." Mirella said, and I hummed. "I just got here  few days ago, so I don't know either." I said, running my healing wrist. "Have there been other prisoners?" Nita asked.

"Yes...." Mirella trailed off. "What happened to them?" Nita inquired. "Bought and killed, I suppose. It is the Death Market." I said. "Can we change the subject?" Mirella asked, and so realized that she might have been friends with some of them. "I saw you heal your arm. Pretty cool." Mirella said, and my ears perked a bit. "A healing ability?" I asked. "Not really. Whay are you two?" She asked us. "We're human. Like you." Mirella said, and I sighed. I knew what she meant. "I'm a shapeshifter." I supplied.

I heard a person come down the hall, and I saw Kovit carrying three trays. He gave Mirella a plate of shrimp, me macaroni with pasta sauce, and Nita what smelled like beans. "Gracias, Kovit." I said, smiling at him. He have me a wicked smile back. "There's a shower mechanism here, how do I turn it on?" Nita asked him. "You can't." He said, smiling. "But I can. Be back." He began walking out, and I nodded as he passed. "Thank you, Kovit." Nita said, and I shifted to lay on my stomach. "Being nice to me won't save you. Nothing will." He said, and I shrugged. We shall see, Kovit.
