I caught up with Nita and peered over her shoulder, reading a text that said "Customers coming as noon tomorrow. Have everything cleaned up." Shit. She walked into Kovits room and sat on the chair, while I layed back on the mattress. "Are you gonna respond?" I asked her, turning my head. "Understood." She said while texting. She placed the phone down and suddenly it buzzed again. "That was quick." I said whi.e she picked the phone up. "Yes it was. 'I will be there at 11 to make sure there is no repeat of last time.'" She read.
"Last time? Kovits first mistake?" I wondered aloud.
The next day at 11 A.M. Nita locked the door so we would hear her enter, I looked in the monster room and saw Nita wake up from what looked like a bad dream. I looked at the moniter and saw Kovit with an origami bird on his head. Damnit why did he look cute, that makes this more difficult! I followed Nita to the cells, where Kovit looked at her, annoyed. "You're still here?" He asked her, before looking at me. His gaze seemed to soften, just a fraction.
"Obviously." She said, holding the flip phone. "If I were you, I'd have been long gone by now." I leaned against the wall and looked at the interaction. "We would be, if We had money to bribe our way put of here." Nita responded. "I don't have any money," Kovit said, "But you would have suspected as much, or you would have asked me earlier. In that case, you came back for Reyes' money, didn't you?" He said, throwing an origami bird at the wall, and he started to laugh. "After... after you what, kidnap her?" He asked. "Would I be better sitting around sharpening my arts and crafts?" She hissed.
"Right now I'd say our odd are roughly the same." I said, and Nita glared. "I'm glad you find this funny." She said. "I don't. Nita, we are stranded in the Death Market." She looked at me, and shock overtook her features. "Why don't you try pickpocketing someone?" Kovit asked, and I grimaced. It was risky.... "I don't know how, and there's no guarantee it'll be enough money." Not a said, and I bit my lip. "K think you're making excuses." Kovit said, flicking out his knife. "I..... I have an idea of how to pickpocket." I admitted. "A refugee told me."
"Mirella's dead." Nita said, sitting down. "Oh." Kovit said. "'Oh?' That's all you have to say?" Nita asked. "Nita...." I whispered. "So you're targeting Reyes for revenge?" Kovit asked, looking at me. "Practicality." I said, sitting across from Kovit. "How does someone Who's mother gives her bodies to dissect wind up here?" Kovit asked. At first Nita looks tentative.
"I cut up the bodies for my mom's business until I saved one of them. A boy. Mom wasn't happy." She said, and I smiled. Just a little. "That's good. It means you're merciful. Better than Reyes and Boulder." I whispered. "You're mom sold you?" He asked. "You're turn. We never got to finish hearing your story. I've told enough, it's only fair." I told Kovit, laying on my stomach, chin on my arms.
Well, I started to tell you, before Nita planned on murdering me for a closer look at my anatomy. But I can let that slide." He said, "After INHUP arrested my mother, they took my sister into custody as well. I was ten years old and on the streets of Bangkok. In the past, my family had always provided for me, especially my sister. But this was really the first time I was out alone in the world, having to take care of my own unnatural needs." He said, and I imagined a little Kovit on the streets. It was a sad thought.
"What'd you do?" I asked, and he smirked at me. "I fed." He said, and I smiled.
