[Day Nine]
(And morning of day ten)
Respectfully, Doc was ready to kill his father.
Back in Artise, he was given a guest bedroom. He had assumed it'd be the same for Prince Bdubs here.
But, no.
When they both returned to the palace, his father so conveniently explained that Bdubs' bags were in his bedroom because they'd be sharing.
His reasoning? When they're married they'll move into a shared room, so they should 'get used to it'.
-
He carefully placed his new plant on his windowsill and just stared at it. What if it's awkward and weird? I can't just share a bed with him, we haven't been on good terms for that long. No, wait, what're you thinking? It'll be fine, you can do this. It's not that big of a deal. Taking a deep breath, he stood up straight and turned around. The other prince was busy getting ready for bed, and he should probably do the same.
"What're you looking at?" He snapped to the bot that was cleaning his floor, which had paused to look at him. "Shoo, get out, my room is clean."
He watched the little robot scurry out of his room before begrudgingly gathering his things and leaving as well to head to the bathroom.
-
Bdubs awkwardly climbed into the bed. Doc wasn't back yet and he was glad he had some time to himself. This was certainly not helping his newfound panic over his emotions. Maybe, if I pretend to be asleep when he gets here, it'll be less awkward?
Turns out, it was hard to fall asleep when your mind is racing a million miles an hour.
As he curled up with his back facing the opposite side, he heard the prince return. The bed dipped as he crawled under the blanket next to him. "Goodnight," Bdubs softly said, too nervous to look over.
"Goodnight, Bdubs," he quietly responded.
The prince took slow, steady breaths and closed his eyes to help calm his heartbeat. Thankfully, he was able to drift off to sleep fairly quickly like the sleep master he was.
-
Cautiously, Doc rolled over.
He was already an insomniac, and having to share his bed with someone was in no way helping him out. Taking a deep breath, he laid on his back and stared at the ceiling of his room. If only he could easily fall asleep like the other prince.
Speaking of whom, he glanced over as he heard him mumble under his breath. Before he could double-check if the sleeping male was actually asleep, Bdubs rolled over and mumbled something unintelligible.
"What?" Doc whispered, unable to hold back a giggle as he rolled over to his side to face him. It was honestly amusing.
Well, it was amusing until Bdubs reached forward and gripped his nightshirt, pulling the two closer.
Oh god, oh god this can't be happening, he freaked out as Bdubs nuzzled his face against his chest. He mumbled something else, but the only thing Doc was able to make out was; "...you're warm,".
Heat rose to his face and it was a surprise that his pounding heart didn't wake the smaller. His outside arm was just awkwardly folded by his side and he wasn't sure if he was allowed to or not, but he slowly and hesitantly reached his arm over to drape it over Bdubs' side.
"You're cute," Bdubs whispered, snuggling against him.
Doc internally cursed as he closed his eyes. "Are you awake or is this just in your sleep?" He softly asked.
When his only response was the steady breathing of the prince, he realized it was the ladder. "Okay," he murmured, matching his breaths as he closed his eyes, waiting for sleep to overtake him.
-
Bdubs awoke to the feeling of being surrounded by a comforting warmth. Blinking as he looked around, he realized he was snuggled up in Doc's embrace. Heat pricked his cheeks as he then noticed he had been gripping his shirt and quickly let go.
His heart was racing as he checked to see if the other prince was awake or not, and thankfully, he was still asleep.
Closing his eyes again, he leaned his head into his chest, feeling as it rose and fell.
Huh. I could get used to this, he thought with a small smile.
-
He was half-asleep with Doc stirred. "Good morning," he mumbled, feeling the hybrid move beside him.
"O-Oh, you're awake. Good uh- good morning," he said, sitting up.
Bdubs slightly pouted at the loss of the warmth. He was normally a morning person, but today he felt groggier than usual. Shifting, he laid his head on Doc's leg.
"You alright?" Doc asked. He felt a hand lightly touch his hair and a stupid smile formed on his face as it sunk between his locks.
"Yeah," he murmured. "I just don't want to get up."
"Well that's not very prince-like of you," the taller prince teased.
Scoffing, he sat up, leaning forward with his hands bracing himself in front of him. He scrunched his face and stuck his tongue out. What surprised him was that Doc laughed. "You're so immature. And your hair," he giggled. Bdubs just stared at him, unsure how to react. "Are you always like this in the morning?"
Blinking and coming to his senses, he sat back and smiled. "Yeah, so uh, get used to it," he teased, pushing his hair back.
They both awkwardly looked away, unsure how to continue. Okay so- so maybe I do like him? Bdubs thought, idly fixing his hair.
"We ah, we should probably get ready. We've got a long day," Doc said, throwing off the blanket and standing up. The shorter brunette stretched before following him with a silent nod.
And Doc was right; more meetings followed by a ball. It was definitely going to be a long day. What didn't help was how he still felt a little tired, but he'll probably feel better as the day goes on.
