[Day 29]
The kings once again brought the princes to King Cub's study. Thankfully, the situation was nearly as terrifying this time, although for Doc it was still just as nerve-wracking.
"You boys still have plenty of time before your coronations as kings, however this doesn't exempt you from taking on new responsibilities," King Scar explained. "Because you two will become the symbol of our kingdom's unity, you will work together to help supervise the process of the kingdoms effectively merging."
"Don't worry too much, it's easier than you may think. Everything has already been planned out for the past decade, however, the people themselves may need help adjusting. We want this to be as seamless and calm as possible," his father added.
Glancing over at the other prince, he was somewhat relieved to see him flash a smile. "We can handle that!" Bdubs assured them before turning to meet his eyes.
"Yes, that shouldn't be too difficult," he agreed, forming a small smile of his own.
"There will be more to follow, but for now we want you two to focus on that. Later down the line, we want to entrust you two with overseeing the protection of magic whilst finding ways to combine it with Oropolion technology if we can," King Cub explained.
They were dismissed with the request to not think too much about anything except the wedding until the ceremony passed.
Once they were down the hall, Doc stopped his betrothed from walking any further and took his hands. He leaned down, their foreheads close. "How are you feeling?" He quietly asked.
Bdubs exhaled into a small smile, his eyes half-lidded. "Honestly? I'm okay. How about you? Are you still nervous?"
"A bit, yet," he murmured. "But I think-"
"There you are!" The exasperated exclamation from Keralis caused the pair to jump and pull away. "Your meeting is done then, yes?"
Prince Bdubs nodded. "Yes, Doc and I were j-" he gestured to him as he glanced over, but before he could finish Keralis grabbed his arm.
"Great! You've got a lot of final preparations to make before tomorrow so let's go!"
With a light laugh, Bdubs waved at Doc as he was dragged away. Grinning, Doc waved back. He couldn't help but feel a bit down as all he wanted was just a few, quiet minutes of the day to spend with him.
-
Suits that suddenly didn't fit as well and had sudden tears were fixed, appetizers, entrees, and desserts alike were finally agreed on, flowers were finalized and the enchanted band's music was approved.
Bdubs felt his head was spinning and it was barely past noon. At the very least, he was done until the following day.
He managed to sneak away to his room for a few minutes. As for wedding vows, they were told to mention their joyous feelings regarding the joining of the kingdoms. It had taken him time to find the right words to express his excitement about being with Doc, but it was still weird for him. They hadn't spent nearly enough time together as he would've liked.
Although he had concluded that in a few years he was going to surprise the prince with a smaller ceremony for them to renew their vows, which helped writing his current ones a lot easier.
However, he was only able to practice twice in front of his mirror before there was a knock at his door.
"Etho? What's going on?" He asked when he opened the doors.
Despite the mask, he could tell he was flashing a wide grin. "Since there's a lull in the desperate need of the princes, Beef and I wanted to know if you both wanted to get out for a bit," he explained.
"I'd love to," he sighed, following him out.
Out of worry that someone else was going to suddenly snatch him up with a new piece of the event to oversee, they hurried outside where they met up with Beef and Doc at the stables.
"What do you say? A little horse ride through the woods?" Beef suggested.
He eagerly nodded. "That sounds perfect."
-
Bdubs and Doc shared his white horse whilst Beef and Etho followed behind on a black horse with gray and white speckles. Unlike the first time Bdubs took Doc horse riding, the hybrid didn't hesitate to wrap his arms around his waist and made no complaints.
"This place is fascinating," Etho breathed.
Beef would explain anything Etho seemed to be pointing out, which brought a smile to the prince's face. He knew there would be many Oropolions who would want to venture into the woods and study the magic plants and animals, but he was determined to keep the Magical Wood protected. It was sacred, special, and meant to be respected. Although he knew it was more than capable of handling itself, he couldn't help but think of the attack.
Flashes of the forest wailing in pain as it burnt down sent a shiver down his spine.
"Are you alright?" Doc whispered in his ear.
He forced a smile and nodded. "I'm okay, don't worry," he assured him.
The hybrid kissed his cheek and lightly squeezed him. Bdubs slowed into a halt to allow a flock of small, winged lamb-like creatures to hurry across the path. Their coats would change color to help them camouflage, which he explained to Doc. "What's their species name?" Etho inquired.
One stopped, sniffing in Bdubs' direction. He lightly laughed as it danced side to side. "Cloak Dancers," he answered before Beef explained it was due to their 'cloaking' ability and how they did little dances when excited.
Once the last of them hurried off the path, the two horses carried them on.
"Are we going to get in trouble for being out?" Doc wondered out loud. "Is anyone going to care?"
Etho scoffed. "You two are the crowned princes. The worst that's going to happen is we'll get mildly scolded," he pointed out.
Looking back over his shoulder, Bdubs gave him a quick kiss. "We'll be just fine. Now, let's just enjoy the ride. It's our last moment of peace before the ceremony."
"Do we know if you guys are going to get some form of a vacation or a honeymoon?" Beef piped up.
Bdubs hummed for a moment, leaning back against the hybrid's chest. "I... didn't ask during our meeting today. Honestly, I'm not sure. We've got a lot to do so... yeah I don't think so?" He thought out loud. A kiss was pressed to his forehead.
"I'm sure if we talk to the Kings we can work something out. It's been a hectic month, we deserve a break longer than a few hours," Doc pointed out.
Whether they would be able to or not, Bdubs was content enough with the time he had then, with Doc and his friends new and old. In the back of his mind, he still had his anxiety over the wedding brewing, but within the following twenty-four hours he was confident it would all slip away.
-
Finally, an update, look at that! So the wedding itself is going to most likely take two chapters and after will be a short fluffy chapter which is technically where the story will end. However! If people are interested enough in some honeymoon chapters I would be happy to supply one or two!
