[Five Years Later]
It was a warm, golden morning outside the Magical Wood.
Matching white sun dresses and colorful flower crowns adorned the two princes.
The celebration wasn't anything extravagant; a few chairs for their closest friends and family and an archway for them to stand under.
Captain Wels had the ability to officiate the small event.
With a smile so big his cheeks were hurting, Prince Bdubs took his husband's hands and squeezed them.
"When we were reunited a month before our wedding, I couldn't stand you. Every time we talked it ended in failure; a fault that was on both of us," he began, causing Doc to laugh. "And even now, we still may have our disagreements, but there's a difference from that first day to the present. Instead of ending our arguments with anger and walking away, you kiss me and we take a walk together. Now, I know you like the back of my hand. Now, I'm madly infatuated with you."
He had to pause to stop himself from laughing. From the way the hybrid prince was beginning to get antsy as he bounced on the balls of his feet, he knew he was ready to kiss him then and there. So he squeezed his hands again and continued. "I love the way you look at me with that stupid grin. I love how excited you get when one of your contraptions begins to function properly. I love waking up beside you every morning, finding little trinkets to give you, I love you. If I had to sacrifice all of my magic to save your life, I wouldn't hesitate. It wouldn't take a thought at all if it meant protecting you." Doc squeezed his hands back, his brows creasing.
"Bdubs..." he whispered, his voice trailing off when he shook his head.
"I mean it," Bdubs lightly laughed. "You mean so much to me, and even though I may never find the right words to express it, I hope that I can show it enough through my actions every day. If we go to bed one night and you're not fully convinced that I'm so helplessly in love with you, then I've done something wrong."
Pursing his lips, Doc's eye got teary. Letting go of one of his hands, he turned his face away. However as he reached for the corner of his eye, Bdubs gently pulled his hand away so he could wipe his stray tear himself.
"I love you, Doc," he whispered as he guided his face back so he could meet his gaze.
-
Clasping both his hands between his, Doc's smile grew wider. "And I love you more. I was never one to believe in love at first sight. But you're living proof that I was wrong. The moment I laid eyes on you, in the back of my mind I knew I never wanted to look away. Before we were married, I never expected to be the romantic type. All I assumed was to come out of this marriage as at the most, friends. Yet here I am, wanting nothing more than to run away with you, to spend our days doing nothing but cuddle and go on dates."
It was Bdubs' turn to laugh. Truth be told, that was a conversation they found themselves having often before bed. Especially after a tiring day of tasks, Doc would ask his husband to leave everything behind, to go live in the magical wood. And every time, Bdubs would tell him that maybe they could one day.
"You're the most important thing in my life. Everything I do, you are the first person I consider when making a decision. Now that I have you by my side, I can no longer imagine my life without you. I honestly like to believe that even if we weren't betrothed, that somehow we'd still find our way to each other. That somehow we'd still end up here." Doc couldn't help but once again think about the dreaded day when the forest was burned. The image of finding Bdubs on the ground, the way he barely moved, those memories haunted him. Admittedly, he hated the idea of Bdubs sacrificing himself to save him, because what would he do with himself when he no longer had the love of his life with him?
When they were finally able to kiss, the hybrid let go of his worries. He let go of his hands in favor of cupping his face. Bdubs gripped the fabric covering his chest as they shared a tender kiss. The sound of their friends and family cheering and clapping was a lot more comforting compared to when they first got married.
-
"Oh!" Bdubs didn't expect to be pulled into a tight hug, but laughed and eagerly accepted it nonetheless.
"Stay by me forever?" His husband quietly asked, squeezing him.
Smiling wider, he buried his face in the side of his neck. "Of course. I love you, after all," he assured him.
Gently pushing him back, Doc peppered kisses across his face and against his lips. "I love you so much."
