"Joey," I heard someone whisper in my ear. "Joey?"
It wasn't until that second time that it hit me what was going on. I jolted up and scooted into the door.
"P-Percy what are you..." I trailed off. "You're uh, still here?"
His eyes widened a bit. "Sorry, I just thought that we-"
"Yeah," I nodded. "We were, or we are..."
After a thick moment of tension, a laugh escaped his lips and before I knew it I was cracking up too. His laugh is contagious after all, even if it's coming at an awkward moment.
"I just wanted to tell you that we're in New Mexico." He admited, relaxing back into his seat.
"New Mexico, huh?" I said. "I guess I can check another state off of the list."
"Wait a second, you mean that one Miss Chance gave us in third grade?" He questioned with a grin.
I shrugged. "Well, yeah."
"You actually kept that thing?"
I raised a brow. "You're asking as if you didn't."
A sheepish look came over his face. "I kinda threw mine away..."
"You threw it away?"
He laughed. "I used it as a napkin at lunch."
"Damn," I shook my head somewhat jokingly. "I guess our ten year vacation meant nothing to you."
He smirked. "Oh come on, you know that's not true."
"How are we supposed to get to Hawaii when my partner threw away half the map?" I asked with a smile.
"We could improvise."
"Improvise?" I asked.
He shrugged. "You know, take a boat or something."
"I mean, I guess that could work," I said. "You are kinda Aquaman."
He laughed.
"Or you could fly us there, Supergirl." He joked.
"No way," I exclaimed. "You'd get thrown out of the sky."
"Well you'd get swallowed by the sea." He said.
I gave him a look. "Eh, I think we'd have better chances with your dad than mine."
"No way," he said. "My dad's isn't any better than yours."
"Really? At least he didn't turn your sibling into a tree."
Percy thought for a moment. "He was saving her life."
"But a tree? Really?" I asked. "Don't you think that's a little extra?"
"Well, she did come back."
I cracked up at that and shook my head. "Okay, you have a point there. What about the time Hera literally erased years of my memory?"
"That wasn't your dad," he argued.
"But it was his wife," I said. "I mean, he couldn't have just asked her to cut me some slack?"
Percy sent me a smile and I couldn't help but stare at him. Everytime I tried to force my eyes away, they just stayed put. I swear, if I didn't know any better I'd say they had a secret mind of their own or something.
A loud tap on my window finally put my eyes back under control.
"Hey!" Thalia shouted. "It's time to go."
