I had never been to Camp Half-Blood in the winter before that day. I was used to bright green fields and sparkling lakes. I guess it didn't look too different. All of what I mentioned was still there. This time though, it was all covered in a thin layer of snow.
I had learned pretty quickly that weather didn't really affect camp how it did most places. You see, they had this magical barrier that usually protects the place from the outside world. That also includes things like rain or harsh winds. Needless to say, I was a little confused by the winter wonderland in front of me.
I could only hope that Mr. D had just decided to let the snow in. Otherwise...well, let's just say something bad would have been going on. And we definitely were already going through our fair share of bad.
As we climbed out of the totalled bus, I got a better look at camp. All of the cabins were decorated with tiny stringed lights. They almost looked like christmas lights, except for the fact that they seemed to be made out of real balls of fire. The whole place actually looked really pretty. There was one sight that was eerie though. Right in the attic window, a bright light was flickering. I couldn't help but wonder if the Oracle of Delphi had lit up a christmas tree or something. The Oracle was the only semi-living thing up there after all.
"Whoa," Nico said, climbing onto the top of the bus. "Is that a climbing wall?"
"Yep," I said.
"Why is there lava pouring down it?"
"Little extra challenge." Percy came up next to us. "Come on, Nico. I'll introduce you to Chiron. Zoe, have you met—"
"I know Chiron," Zoe said stiffly. "Tell him we will be in Cabin Eight. Hunters, follow me."
"I'll show you the way," Grover offered.
"We know the way."
"Oh, really, it's no trouble. It's easy to get lost here, if you don't"—he tried to walk on some rocks to get to the dock but he ended up tripping over a canoe and came up still talking—"like my old daddy goat used to say! Come on!"
Zoe rolled her eyes and scoffed but she must have figured she wouldn't get rid of him easily. The Hunters quickly gathered up their belongings and effortlessly made their way to land. Percy held out his hand to me, and helped to lower me onto a rock.
"Thanks," I said.
He sent me a smile, "no problem."
I probably could have gotten down on my own. I think Percy was just a little concerned for me. After all, I had spent the majority of last summer narrowly escaping death veia water. I wasn't scared of the sea, definitely a little more hesitant than I used to be before I found out I was the daughter of Zues though.
By the time we got to land, almost all of the hunters were far off in the distance. Bianca was one of them still left walking around the water. She took a brief look around before she hesitantly leaned over and whispered something in her younger brother's ear. I have no idea what she said but for the first time sense I'd met Nico, he looked seriously angry. He narrowed his eyes and harshly turned away from her.
"Take care, sweethearts!" Apollo called after the Hunters. He winked at Percy and I. "Watch out for those prophecies, kids. I'll see you soon."
I met eyes with Percy and then we both sent the god a look.
"What do you mean?" Percy questioned.
In natural god-like fashion, he ignored the question. Instead of answering, he hopped back into the bus. "Later, Thalia," he called. "And, uh, be good!"
