One Step Closer

Chapter 12

HEATHER'S POV

I woke up to the rise and fall of Jack's chest where my head was rested. I had to take a minute to observe my surroundings. I was in my living room. I sat up unsure of how I got home.

"Morning beautiful. How'd you sleep?" Jack asked.

"Fine I guess." I replied looking at him in confusion.

He chuckled. "You probably don't remember how you got home, do you?"

I shook my head laying back against his chest.

"Well," He said running his fingers through my hair. "you were pretty out of it when we left the hospital last night. You must've been really tired because you fell asleep against my shoulder on the cab ride home. You woke up when we pulled up to your apartment and we carried in your things, but you went right back to sleep when we sat down on the couch. You've been asleep ever since.

"Gosh I don't remember any of that." I said making us laugh.

"Oh by the way, go look out the window."

I sat up stretching out my back. I walked over to my window and as far as I could see was covered in a blanket of white snow. Jack came up behind wrapping his arms around my waist.

"So," He kissed my cheek. "are you ready for our second date?"

"Always." I said turning around and planting a kiss on his lips.

We pulled on our coats, gloves, hats, and snow boots and headed out the door. We hailed a cab. Jack whispered something in the cab driver's ear and off we went.

We pulled in front of Central Park where people were building snowmen, having snowball fights, and ice skating on the pond.

"What do you want to do first?" He asked.

"Oh I know come on!" I pulled him towards a stand that was renting out ice skates. I paid for two pair and took them back over to Jack. We laced them up and I stepped out on the pond.

"Well, aren't you coming?"

"I can't skate very well." He said looking down at his feet.

"Come here." I said grabbing his hands.

He was struggling to stay upright so I squeezed his hands a bit tighter for reinsurance.

"That's it you got it, just one foot at a time."

We went once around the pond with me facing him holding his hands. I let go of one hand and holding tight to the other so I was at his side.

We went around the pond a few more times before deciding to stop.

We sat on the edge of the pond and took off our skates, pulled our boots back on, and returned the skates to the stand.

I walked a little bit ahead of him taking in the scenery. As I was walking I felt something cold hit the back of my head. A snowball. I turned around and Jack was acting nonchalant like nothing happened. I scooped up my own snowball and threw it at him and it hit him square in the face.

I tried not to laugh at his expression.

"Oh it's on!" He scooped up snowballs and started throwing them at me and I did the same. This lasted for a few minutes before we tired ourselves out.

We decided to take a carriage ride around the park. He pulled the blanket that was on the seat on top of us and put his arm around me.

"How did you get so good at skating." He asked me once the ride started.

"When I was younger my dad used to take me skating at our local rink and that's where he taught me. When Hannah was six and I was thirteen I taught her the same way I taught you. Now she's a natural."

"Well thank you for teaching me today. I never thought I would learn how."

"You're very welcome." I said with a grin.

"Another successful date?" He asked.

"Another successful date."

And with that we rode off into the night.

So I was just in New York City and went to Central Park and found a cool pond that was frozen over but it wasn't thick enough to skate on. *whispers* That's ok I'm not very good at skating anyway. Anyway I felt like a cool snowy fun chapter was in order. Thank you always for reading! Chapter 13 up soon. :) <3
