Who is the mom ?

Chapter 39

The team was already on it's way over to where Natasha gave her last position report. Except for Stark who had been charged of dropping the twins over to Strange's place. His Iron-Man suit allowed him to join the rest of the team faster than any other avenger.

Tony: "Hello, I have a package for Dr. Stephen Strange. Well, two actually."

Strange: "Hi, it's been a while."

Tony: "There you go, their dad will pick them up later. Or their mother maybe."

Strange: "Hey, where are you going ? I'm not a babysitter, what am I supposed to do with those kids ?"

But Tony wasn't listening anymore. Indeed, right after he let go of their hands, he was already flying away, leaving Strange with no choice but to take care of the children.

Strange: "Hello you two, my name is Dr. Stephen Strange, but everyone calls me Dr. Strange."

Lexi: "My name is Lexi, and this is my twin brother Charlie."

Charlie: "Nice to meet you Dr."

Strange: "Ok, where are your parents ?"

Both of the twins instinctively looked back which caused Strange to freak out very much thinking Tony was their dad. But they had only done it in order to check no one was listening closely as their parents had told them it was safer.

Strange: "Wait. Tony !? No way."

Charlie: "No, not Tony. Captain America."

Strange: "I didn't know he was a father, who is your mom ? If you don't mind telling me "

Lexi: "Black Widow is our mother."

Strange: "What !? When did they get together ? What the hell ? I haven't seen this coming..."

Twins: "Oh boy, here we go again."

Once Dr. Strange had learned about the whole family situation, he still wasn't sure about why the twins were there. And that was a question they couldn't answer. They had learned over the years that when either of their parents told them to do something, stay somewhere or with someone, there was a situation, probably dangerous and they just had to obey without asking questions. Most of the time, the answers would come afterwards, once they were all safe.

Strange invited them to follow him somewhere else, where they could sit and play on their own because he had no idea what to do with the two 10 years old. As it was getting late he figured they needed to eat something and asked them what they usually ate at dinner. Of course the kids were smart and just asked for pizza and ice cream,'cause they had noticed Strange had no idea of what he was doing. And of course he agreed to both.

It took him a while, but at the end he noticed how the twins' eyes turned green when he approached them and of course he needed to know why.

Strange: "Hey guys, your eyes just turned green is that normal ?"

Charlie: "Green ?"

Strange: "Yes why ?"

Lexi: "Well, our eyes have changed colors before, but to yellow not green."

Strange: "That's weird, when did that happen ?"

Twins: "Playing with Vision."

Strange immediately understood what that meant and began looking around into his books. The twins watched him, still eating, as he was going crazy, running everywhere, pacing back and forth impatiently whenever he got ahold of a book that could fulfil his curiosity. But the books didn't have the information he was looking for. If he was honest with himself, he didn't even know what he was exactly looking for. The situation was unreal. He couldn't help but wonder if there was a specific reason Tony, or Steve, (he didn't know who made the call) decided to leave the twins with him.

The twins quickly got bored by the lack of toys he had, and after dinner there was not much to do. As they kept bothering Strange to play with them, saying they were bored he opened a portal to their room in the Avengers Tower and the three of them stayed there, the twins happily playing, allowing Strange to finally focus on his research.

He was genuinely curious about the matter so he kept asking the twins about the time it happened with Vision, and, distracted by the toys, wanting to end the conversation as soon as possible, they answered every single one of his questions. And then he wanted to see if they could use the powers of the time stone as well.

It took them a little while, but they eventually managed to get a hold of it, which impressed Strange. But now that he had something to do with them he was less scared about the whole babysitting thing.
