Colorism
I grew up being bullied in the society,
I was judged because of my skin and nationality,
They can define me by just using their eyes,
Calling me weak, uneducated, and a lot more lies. They said, you're brown you don't belong to us,
Yes, that's how they broke me so fast,
Branding me cheap, like am I a thing?
If for them it's a joke, for us, it's a one way of killing. You're as darker as a chocolate,
You aren't beautiful like a perfect made graphic template,
They're laughing behind you in public,
Thinking, they're such a good critic. As time goes by, I became immunized,
I'll never let their words make my future be paralyzed,
I'll just open my eyes and ears,
I'm strong, even if I'm in tears. Here I am speaking for myself,
To those silent ones, I'll be your clef,
This is the right time to break the chain of differences,
Smash the walls of negativities, the colorism and its fences. This poem is dedicated to: EkaLaiGreen
