The Captains Wife

Chapter 9

3rd POV 

Everyone in the tavern is in a state of shock. There standing in front of them is the man they are assumed to be dead. The man that they were blamed for killing. The man that spent so much time with Serena, and the man that devoted his life to Gilthunder. 

"Gilthunder?" Zaratras asks in a voice that shows he is shocked and confused. 

"H-how are you alive?" Gilthunder asks as tears start to build up in his eyes. "I seen what happened to you. There is not way you survived that." 

Zaratras sends him a sad smile and says "We will talk soon my boy, but for now I need to handle Hendrickson and Dreyfus. There is a lot they need guidance with, and with out them this kingdom will be likely to fall." 

"Um r-right. Why don't you go and get changed into my comfortable clothes, and then I will take you to then." Gilthunder speaks as he continues to feel completely shocked. 

Zaratras nods his head and follows after Gowther as he leads him to a room that has clothes that will fit. In the meantime everyone is still reeling in shock. As everyone is processing what just happened Meliodas starts to feel the feeling of envy creep onto him. There walked in the man that provided and took care of his family because he failed at the one job he was supposed to never fail at. There was the man that comforted his wife for a small portion of her imprisonment, and there is the man that truly molded his son into the man that he is. 

Gilthunder on the other side is beaming with happiness. He understands that Meliodas is his biological father, but Zaratras was the one that was there to chase away his nightmares that he had. Zaratras was the man that was there for him up until his dreadful and heartbreaking murder. He doesn't quite understand how he is here but he is brimming with happiness at the thought that his mother and the man he always saw as his father will be reunited hopefully. 

Finally deciding to break the silence Gilthunder speaks up. "Can we keep mom a secret from him? Imagine the surprise for the both of them when she comes back. After her nasty send off I think she deserve this." 

"I think that sounds like a wonderful idea." Howzer says feeling happy for his best friend. 

When Meliodas hears these words he feels the jealousy intensify, but he pushes it to the back of his mind and nods his head. As jealous as he is, he won't let that get in the way of making his love happy, and if Zaratras is the way to do it then he would step back. 

"I agree. We will keep this from the both of them. I am sure they will be excited to be reunited with one another." Meliodas says with a small smile. 

Gilthunder feels guilt shoot through his body because he can see that Meliodas isn't to happy about this news but at the moment he really just wants to focus on his mom and her happiness.

Before anyone can respond Zaratras makes his way down and quickly walks over and pulls Gilthunder into a tight hug. "I am so sorry for leaving you so suddenly my son. I failed you, and I only hope and pray that your life hasn't be to hard on you. I never wanted to leave you, but I knew you would be well taken care of." 

Meliodas once again feel his jealousy spike but once again he pushes it to the back of his mind. He can't be upset with Zaratras. He was there to pick up the pieces of his family that he shattered. 

"Gil why don't you take him to go see Hendrickson and Dreyfus. I have someone I have to meet okay?" Meliodas says with another small smile. "It is good to see you Zaratras." 

"You as well sir Meliodas. I would like to have drinks with you later!" Zaratras says before he disappears out the door. 

Meliodas nods his head as he makes his way towards where he can sense Elizabeth. He doesn't want to make this choice, but he truly thinks this is what is for the best. Zaratras is obviously the better option for Serena. He never gave up on her. He never let her down. Serena deseres someone like Zaratras. He is the one who got himself in this predicament. He was the one who tried to bury his heart break and guilt into another woman. He was the one who pursued Elizabeth with the hope she would help him get over Serena. He was the one who was stupid enough to think that it would work. He made his bed and now he has to sleep in it, and if that means being with the woman he doesn't love than that is what he would do if it mean Serena was able to pursue a happy life with the man that she deserved.
