Chapter Fifteen:
The Power of Music

LUCY WAS ROAMING the halls when she finally found Nini and Kourtney. She sighed of relief and jogged up to them.

"Hey! There you guys are," Lucy sighed of relief.

"Luce, hey. Sorry for just bailing," Nini apologized. "You did a really good job trying to get everyone together, it's just... it's a lot right now."

"Can we make you our Troy?" Kourtney asked jokingly, Lucy finally cracked a smile and let out a light laugh.

"Nini, can we talk?" Ej asked as they approached.

"Uh, right now?" Nini questioned, barely sparing him a glance as she walked past.

"Yeah, I'll get to why in a sec, but... Miss Jenn isnt the only person with secrets," Ej blurted. Nini turned to look at him and Lucy leaned against the lockers next to Kourtney who was opening her own. "I really need to get some stuff off my chest."

"Like what?" Nini asked warily. Lucy looked to Ashlyn for some sort of explanation and the girl only pursed her lips and shrugged her shoulders in reply.

"How much time do you have?" Ej questioned admittedly.

"I think I'm gonna..." Ashlyn trailed off.

"Yeah," Kourtney agreed.

"Right behind you," Lucy said quickly.

"Actually, Luce. You should probably play mediator. Just in case," Nini admitted, not taking her eyes off Ej in a hard look. Lucy looked to Kourtney and Ashlyn for help, but they only looked at her fearfully.

"Have fun!" Kourtney smiled at the girl, patting her on the shoulder. Ashlyn looked at her apologetically and she and Kourtney quickly walked away, Lucy sighed and leaned against the lockers.

"Go ahead," Lucy motioned for the two of them, crossing her arms over her chest.

"I've been trying to figure out how to apologize for a while now," Ej admitted finally. "Mostly to figure out how to make you stop hating me."

"I don't hate you, Ej. I just don't trust you. You can't..."

"No, you don't have to explain yourself. I've messed up more than you know," Ej assured her. Lucy looked past them at the camera and furrowed her eyebrows. "Just hear me out, please."

"Go ahead," Nini agreed softly.

"Okay, uhm... Okay. Here it goes. I tried to bribe Miss Jenn into giving me the part of Troy when I thought Ricky dropped out of the show. There's more, uhm... I went to homecoming with Gina because I thought it might put a wedge in between certain people and maybe it would... I don't know, end with me and you back together," Ej listed off. Lucy frowned and looked down at the ground. She really didn't want to hear all of this.

"How would that even work?" Nini questioned him.

"I never really understood, so I guess while I'm confessing to things, despite the 4.3 GPA, I'm actually an idiot. But that's not what I really want anymore anyway... because, that night I realized something else," Ej admitted. Lucy was still staring at the ground, not understanding why she was there anyway. Ej licked his lips and his eyes darted in Lucy's direction for a second before he looked down at the ground. Nini's eyes trailed over to Lucy and she looked back at Ej.
