The tryouts had begun and I've been squealing on my seat for an hour. The cheerleaders have been very picky in choosing candidates, and the routines were prim and strict.
Lalisa was leading the auditions, she looked quite displeased. Her eyebrows were furrowed and her lips in a tight line.
Students shivered under her gaze, often losing their focus and stumble. The reason for their failure.
"Formation Bowling! What are you doing?! You there, pink ponytail. You failed!" she shouted through the microphone, rubbing her temples as the poor girl ran off, crying.
"Damn, never knew cheer could be this hard," a voice interrupted my thoughts, I looked to my right to see Irene.
She looked back with a raised brow, crossing her arms against her chest. "What you looking at?"
I gave her a grin, propping a hand on my chin. "Nothing, it just seems you are interested in Cheer."
She scoffed, looking back at the center gym. "I'm new on the team. What makes you think that I wouldn't be?"
"Yet, you mentioned that you never knew that cheer was this hard," I fired back, receiving an eye roll from the pretty doll.
"I'm their new assistant coach, I just got the job and dang, that gotta hurt," she grimaced, seeing a girl fall off from the pyramid.
"Then why are you not helping with the try-outs?" I nosily spoke, leaning back on the bench as she let out a sigh, facing my direction.
Seeing her clearly, she wore a varsity jacket as the words CHEERLEADING TEAM was emphasized on the chest. Her hair was in a messy bun, a lollipop on her lips.
"I'm here to observe, kid. Aren't ya gonna try out now?" she looked at me, pointing at the gym where the next batch is called.
I gave her a snicker and a quick salute, standing up from the benches. "Wish me luck," I gave the woman a wave, which she returned half-heartedly.
My heart was thumping loudly inside my chest as I rushed down the stairs. A light breeze passed through my cheeks, my legs hurriedly move to the center, and stand in front of the crowd.
My ears perked up at the loud whispers around me, yet I paid no mind.
My appearance might shock people, but I'm still me on the inside.
"Let's start with name-calling," Lalisa's voice boomed through the speakers, making everyone straighten their backs.
"Jung Kira?"
"Present!"
They started checking their attendance one by one and every second is making my heart pound in excitement. I licked my lower lip, placing a hand on my waist as I glanced around.
Some wore smug smiles, meanwhile, others looked nervous. I grinned, wanting to see what everyone has got.
"Jennie Kim?"
The gym got whispers were heard. I looked around and saw people glancing in search of the girl named Jennie Kim.
I scoffed, lowering my head in a small chuckle before raising my hand. Gasps were heard around, as I raised my head with a bright smile on my lips, eyes crinkled.
"Present, Lalisa-chan~"
I made eye contact with Lalisa. Her lips curved upwards in a small smile before she looked away and continued calling names.
My eyes glanced around to see that no one stood beside me, it was all empty.
I pushed my hair back, chuckling at their evident avoidance. "She's not that crazy to try out for the strictest cheerleading team in the whole country, right?" someone whispered behind.
"I bet she's just here to catch attention, she's an attention-seeker I tell you," another one whispered back, causing me to turn towards them with a bright smile on my lips.
I let out a laugh, hands intertwined behind me as I leaned forward at the two girls." You're not talking about me, aren't you? "I pouted.
Their eyes widen, taking a step back from my sudden presence. "So what if we are?" the blonde-haired girl boldly spoke, raising her chin.
"I'm just here to cheer, why can't I try out?" I gave her a shrug yet, she let out a sarcastic scoff.
"We're here to cheer, not scare, Jennie Kim."
I smiled at her, scratching the back of my head, and giggled. "Are you asking for death?" I muttered under my breath, still with a smile.
"What? We couldn't hear you," she glared, stepping forward. I pressed a finger on my cheek and cheekily grinned.
"Nothing, just excited to see you fail."
"What?!" she angrily exclaimed, her nose blaring as I took a step back and looked at her innocently.
"The truth never hurts, you know..."
"You bitch!" she shrieked, I covered my ears and grimaced at the ugly goat voice that I'm hearing.
Heh, weird.
"Could you shut up there or do you want to fail that earlier?" Lalisa shouted as we glanced back to see her with a frown on stage.
I gave her an innocent smile and bowed towards the girl who shouted. "I'm so sorry, blonde-chan. I hope your hair won't fall out anytime soon," her eyes twitched in anger but she was holding herself. Making me smirk.
Now that look suits you more.
"Get into positions, stretch for a few minutes and the try-outs will begin shortly!"
I turned around and looked for a spot to stretch. My body was able to stretch properly since no one wants to do it besides me, making me able to do it well.
I twisted my body and stretched, feeling my body getting more flexible. My eyes caught sight of a raging bully that barged through the gym doors, it was Kim Taehyung and his band, Bangtan.
He grumpily looked away, kicking the non-existent rocks as he sat with his group in the bleachers.
I wonder why they're here all of the sudden.
"Jungkook-ah! Good luck, kid!" the tall boy with pink hair and glasses shouted, a bright smile on his lips.
The rest of the group howled in excitement, which gave the domino effect as the crowd went wild. I tilted my head staring at the group, curious.
How popular are they anyway?
Doesn't matter, I need to stretch and pass through these try-outs.
