Chapter Fourteen:Kiara

When I wake up Alan is gone and I am shocked to find my mom sitting on my couch her head bowed as if she is praying. My first thought is that she might have found Alan in my room but she raises her head just as I am about to go to her.

"Mom? Is-is everything ok?" I ask.

"Why didn't you say anything? I know we are always busy but we will always........" She doesn't finish the sentence as she breaks down crying.

"What are you....."

"Your Heart condition Kiara," My dad answers entering my room. "When were you gonna tell us?"

At his words, I feel anger boiling within me. How dare he say that? Someone who checks up on his daughter once or twice a month.

"Don't you have a blockbuster movie to make dad? And you? Who is making people  fake whilst you are here pretending to care about your sick daughter huh?"

"KIARA!"

"MOM!"

"DON'T YOU...."

"OR ELSE WHAT HUH?"

"Both of you stop it! We need to sit down and talk about this issue." My dad says in a calm voice.

I take a seat opposite my parents who look at me as if I have grown a second head.

"Who told you?" I ask.

"Is that important right now?" My mom responds.

"Carrie told us a few days ago," my dad responds. "Kiki, why didn't you tell us?"

I want to blame everything on them. I want to vent all my anger and frustration but something held me back. What if they tell Alan?

"What are you planning?"

Mom looks like she is planning to put me on the next plane but there is no way in hell would I ever leave. " First get dressed you are going for a check-up. After that, if it's serious you are catching the next plane to..."

"Nope ain't going nowhere with you guys. I will go for a check-up but if you think that im leaving then think again."

"I wasn't asking you, Kiara, I was telling you." Way to go, mom.

"Same applies here mother," I smirk to which my dad rolls his eyes. He knows that once we start arguing we never stop.

"Are you two done now?" He asks.

"No!" We answer in unison.

"I will take that as yes, in twenty minutes we will be leaving for the hospital," dad says and they both leave my room with mom giving me a this is not overlook.

As im about to go and take a shower, I notice my slightly open laptop. I open it to find a note from Alan.

Hi, sleeping beauty
Sorry, I had to leave early but I couldn't stand your snoring hahaha just kidding. Hope you have a great morning see you tomorrow at school.
P.S you look beautiful when you are sleeping.

I feel my cheeks heat up and I read the note over and over again. I don't want to die anymore. I want to live a normal life and I will do anything even if it means going for a check-up with ice Queen.

"I'm glad Kiara finally told you about her condition. Her heart is weakening and she might need surgery."

"You mean we have to find a transplant?" My mom asks in tears.

"Fortunately not yet, she just needs surgery and she will be ok. That's why I kept telling her to bring her parents. I needed your authorization to have the surgery," Dr. Ethan notes.

"When can she have it?" My dad who had been quiet the entire time finally asked.

"In two weeks. When she came last time she was in a bad condition so I gave her tablets to manage her condition. As soon as her heart is strong enough she can have the surgery."

"Thank you so much doctor, Ethan," Dad shakes his hand then we leave the hospital. No one spoke to me in the car and I figured they were mad at me. I almost smile when I think about how they will react when they find out that I'm on the verge of expulsion.

"Uh-so I was hoping you wouldn't tell Alan about my you know condition?"

"Are you telling me again or asking Kiara?" Mom answers first.

"I was kinda speaking to both of you?" Oh oh me and my sharp tongue.

Mom ignores me "are you two dating?" She asks.

"NO!" I shout and my dad bursts out laughing. I might be mad at my dad for not always being there but he is more chilled compared to his wife.

"I mean he is my best friend and he just decided to stay here until he graduates so I don't wanna lose that."

"Oh, so he was gonna leave but stayed for your sake?" My dad teases.

"I didn't say that dad but please just don't tell him," I beg them.

"We won't but we will also be staying here for a while," Mom smirks which confirm my worst nightmare. It's never safe when she smirks.

"How long is a while?"

"I don't know forever is also a while right?"

Wait what? No ways. Don't get me wrong I loved my parents. I also craved a normal family but now that they were here I didn't know what to do or how to feel. They were just here because I was sick. As soon as I got better things would go back to normal. They would go back to their jobs, send me money, and call me once or twice a month. I didn't want to get attached. They just felt obliged to be here.

"It is but not with you guys. You have your important jobs and I get that. Don't worry about me I will be ok. I will also have the surgery because I don't really wanna die anymore."

If I got my hopes up and they left after the surgery I would never recover. I just wanted to recover so I could have a normal life. I wanted to be able to drink alcohol or do crazy sports.

"We won't tell him but you will have to. He is your boyfri...."

"Dad he is not."

"Ok, ok I get it. We have something to tell you," He says. " Your mom has retired."

"Oh ok wait WHAT!"

"I'm sure Carrie had already told you that we were planning to come back. We took this decision before even knowing about your condition." Mom continues.

"So you didn't come back because of my sickness?"

Mom answers as we arrive home,
"No, when we came back we just thought that you would open up to us. I'm so sorry Kiara."

For the first time since she came home, I gave her a warm hug. I might not agree with them on a lot of things but at least they were back. Dad joined the hug which kinda got awkward and thankfully my phone saved me.

Beep Beep
Alan: Wat are you up to? I miss you.
Me: I miss you too, just stuck with mom n dad.
Alan: Been driving mom around whilst she is house hunting and Im starving🥺
Me: I can....

"Hmmm, hmm, is that your boyfriend?" I jump out of my skin when I see my parents both standing behind me peeking on my phone. Oh my God! We needed some ground rules urgently.

"Go on finish it," they both say as they head towards leaving me blushing like crazy.

Me: Dude they were peeking on my phone. who does that?

Alan: 😆😆 Kiki you are doomed.

Alan was right. I was doomed because I wasn't used to having people invading my space. The worst part, my parents were driving me to school tomorrow.
