Devin

Wreckage of the CHESF base.

Devin groaned. He struggled to move. His whole body hurt and he had a ringing in his ears.

He was laying on the floor in a spread eagle position. He straightened himself, and moved his hands so they were just below his shoulder. He struggled to do a push-up, but he did. He moved his leg up so he was sitting on one knee and one foot.

He was hurt. Bad.

Devin felt warmth dripping down his side. He looked down and found a bloody hole in his gut. The pain suddenly hit him.

He was hurt. Bad.

He turned his visor to X-ray. He was ok. No broken bones. The suit had protected him from most of the impact. The only thing that Devin was concerned about was the big chunk of shrapnel that was about three centimeters from where his stomach was. If he had no techsuit on, he would be dead for sure. His stomach would release all of its acids into his body, infecting and melting all of his other organs. Devin silently thanked the scientist who designed his armor. The only problem now was that he had a big chunk of metal in him. He sighed, knowing what to do. It wasn't going to be pretty.

Or painless.

Devin focused on the piece. Scarlet swathes of energy entered his wound and grabbed hold of it. He gently pulled. It came a little ways out, but caused him so sharp of pain that he winced. That was a lot. Devin thought of his days at Aquamaroon. They trained their soldiers to be able to withstand the pain of childbirth(with electrodes hooked up to their abdomen) without making a face or uttering a noise. Devin also did the training, though he wasn't a soldier. He had gotten it done in three tries, and mastered it within seven.

This was worse.

Better to pull it off like a band-aid.

He tightened his mental grip on it, and yanked. The shard ripped out of him and shot towards the far wall at a high velocity. Devin gasped and fell over again. He laid on his back for a while, then sat up. His powers gave him super healing. Not as fast as Swipe's, but faster than normal. Already the blood flow was slowing, and the pain went from a twenty out of ten to a dull twelve. He got to his feet and brushed himself off. Spectre stood by a huge rock pile that used to be the main entrance. Devin's eyes got wide.

This was your home. Now it is your tomb. A ghostly whisper entered into Devin's mind. Spectre was looking at him. His skull face expressionless. His body got blurry and distorted, then it walked through the rock. Devin was angry. He used his powers to push against the rock pile. It wouldn't budge. He pushed with all of his will-power, and the rocks exploded outward. Devin saw no sign of Spectre anywhere in the dark of the night.

Devin now took a moment to survey his surroundings. All around him were the bodies of his comrades, and past them rock piles. The explosion caused a massive cave on all sides.

Devin heard a deep rumbling sound behind him. He turned just in time to see a massive chunk of rock fall from the ceiling to recover the entrance. Devin had other things to work on first. The cavern was bathed in complete darkness, and Devin had to use the night vision module to see. He ran to Sky first.

She was lying unconscious in a heap. Her yellow armor was dimmed beneath the layer of dust and debris. She looked unharmed, and when Devin performed an X-ray, he saw that it was so.

"Sky, wake up!" He said. She didn't respond. He gently grabbed her by the shoulders and shook her lightly, being careful not to hurt her wings. "Come on, come on, come on!" She groaned, and Devin stopped shaking her. She sat up and held her head.
