My own version of Merder's fanfic story.
PS. This is my first time writing a story and I'm not really good in medical terms. Thank you and I hope you like it.
Ellis Grey has a close friendship with Richard Webber, the Chief of Surgery at Mount Sinai. When Ellis and Thatcher were busy or needed some time away from the kids, he and Adel would babysit the grey siblings. Meredith is his closest or favorite; they usually do activities together, and he refers to her as Meri. While waiting for her to come into his office, he thought about every moments he spent with her when she was a child. He is very proud of her accomplishments, and for him, she is the daughter he never had. He also recalls leaving Seattle for the position of Chief of Surgery and promising Meredith that he would return every year and call every other day. His thoughts broke when he heard a knock on the door.
"Come in," he said
"Chief! I'm sorry I didn't come here earlier. And I thought you are busy so..." she rambles but immediately cut by Richard
"Meri first we are not surrounded by others so you can call me Uncle Richard and I understand but please know that I will never be busy for you." He said while Meredith immediately embraces him.
"So, I heard the surgery is a success" he added
"Yes, and I need to get back to work in Seattle, but my mom doesn't want me back until next week. She wants me to travel to New York so I'm begging you to give me some surgical privileges" she said
"Ok I'm giving you privileges, and you can start tomorrow"
"So what do you want to do or where do you want to go," said Lexie
"Well I really don't know and I honestly just want to be inside the O.R."
"Of course you are," said Maddy
"Why don't you go to our house on Wednesday since Crystal is getting discharge and we have a little celebration," said Carolyn
"Mrs. Shepherd thank you for the invitation but I don't want to impose"
"There is no imposition and dear please call me Carolyn"
"Yeah Mer and besides Maddy and I are there," said Lexie
"And I will tell Mom that you will not be enjoying yourself and she will extend your visit for few more days. Ohhh before I forget Maggie called me earlier and she said that she and the kids miss you and she will be expecting you on Saturday to visit them. Michael is also excited to see you and he said that he will take your Monday to be with them." said Maddy
"Ok fine and besides I have surgical privileges here," she said
"Oww I hate you. He really spoiled you too much. I'm gonna tell everything to Mom" Maddy said while laughing
After 3 days Crystal is finally coming home and finally recovered from the surgery. Carolyn organized a party for Crystal and all of the Shepherds are there. All of them have chores to make and since she is the visitor they didn't want her to help. She is sitting on the couch when suddenly Crystal came to her and snuggles on her chest.
"Hi Crystal, how are you feeling?" she said warmly while rubbing Crystal's back
"I'm good Dr. Grey, I just want some cuddles"
"ok just let me know if you don't feel good"
They stay in that position for a while. Derek finds them and he can't help to keep staring at them and how much he admired her. He stays in the corner and watches his daughter and Meredith interact with each other.
"Hey Der you know I can tell that you like her," said Mark with a smirk
"I... I don't like her. I just watching them." he replied with a blush on his face
"If you say so...."
The younger kids sit beside Meredith and ask her to play with them. They play dress-up and hairstyle. She even braids all the little girl's hair including Crystal. The room is filled with the giggling and laugh of the girls.
"She's really good with them," said Nancy
"Yesss because according to all my nephews and nieces she is the best and cool aunt ever. She loves to spoil them with sweets and play with them."
"Everyone is time to eat," said Carolyn
Later that day Derek sits beside Meredith and starts with small talk. Everyone is watching them secretly with a smile on their faces. Maddy took a picture of them and send it to the group chat of their family without Meredith on it.
"So how long is your stay here?" Derek asked
"Well, I'm here until next week. My mom gave me another week as my punishment for staying all day in the O.R."
"If you let me I'd love to take you out to dinner tomorrow night. How about the new Thai place?"
"Oh well, I thought you have a wife?"
"I'm divorced actually for about 2 years ago"
"I'm sorry... "
"So?"
"Yes sure but can we just go to an Italian restaurant instead of Thai?"
"Of course Dr. Grey"
"If we are going on a date you should stop calling me that. It's Meredith Dr. Shepherd" she smiled while shaking his hand
"Meredith just call me Derek"
"So Derek tell me all about yourself"
"Well my favorite color is blue, my favorite band is the clash, I love coffee ice cream, I have a thing for ferryboat, I have 4 sisters and a daughter which is you already know. I'm a neurosurgeon and I play golf. "
"I'm the fourth child and I have 3 chatty sisters and a very protective brother. I also play golf which by the way I'm really good at. I have 12 nieces and nephews. My favorite color is purple and if you will notice all of my scrab cups are purple. I'm a general surgeon and before I become a resident my first choice of specialty is neuro. Sometimes I thought about having more than one specialty but I became busy with surgery and research. "
"You should do a fellowship in Neuro if you really like it and maybe you can do it here."
"You just said that so you can see me every day" she teases
"Maybe and besides I'm the best Neurogod in the world," he said confidently
"We'll see about that and I don't know what my parents gonna say if I tell them about my plans"
"I think they will support you no matter what." he takes her hand and she immediately intertwined with him
