The following day, Meredith entered the hospital with a renewed sense of purpose. She was officially an attending in both neurosurgery and general surgery—a rare and prestigious position that felt like the culmination of years of dedication and sacrifice. But it wasn't just about the title; it was about the life she'd built, balancing her career with the family she cherished.

As she walked toward the nurses' station, she was greeted with congratulations from her colleagues and friends. It was a whirlwind of handshakes, hugs, and warm smiles. She noticed Bailey standing nearby, watching her with an approving expression.

"Congratulations, Grey," Bailey said, crossing her arms but unable to hide the hint of a smile. "Double-boarded and double-attending. Not bad."

Meredith smiled. "Thank you, Dr. Bailey. It means a lot coming from you."

Bailey's face softened. "You earned this, Meredith. And if anyone can handle the balancing act, it's you. Just don't forget to come up for air every now and then. I know what it's like to have a family waiting for you at home."

Meredith nodded. "I'm learning, one day at a time."

As Bailey walked away, Meredith took a moment to reflect on how far she'd come. She had started here as an intern, then made it through residency, a fellowship, and now was a double-boarded attending. And through it all, she had managed to create a life outside of these walls—a life filled with love, laughter, and the sweetest little girl waiting for her at home.

The day went by in a blur of surgeries, rounds, and consults. She was fully immersed in her work, but there was always a part of her that thought of Crystal and Derek, wondering what they were up to. She felt lighter, knowing she would have more flexibility to be present in their lives, to show up for Crystal's swimming practices, to help with homework, and to simply be there.

When she got home that evening, Crystal greeted her at the door with a big hug. "Mommy! Guess what? Daddy and I made spaghetti for dinner!"

Meredith scooped her up, kissing her cheek. "Spaghetti? My favorite!"

Crystal beamed, wrapping her arms around Meredith's neck. "Daddy let me help, but I didn't touch the hot stuff, I promise!"

Meredith smiled over Crystal's shoulder, catching Derek's eye. "Thank you," she mouthed to him, grateful for the way he'd been holding things down at home to give her space to focus on her work and boards.

They settled in for dinner, and the atmosphere was light and warm, filled with laughter and conversation. Crystal animatedly told Meredith about her day, detailing every game she played, every book she read, and her excitement for her upcoming swimming classes.

"Mommy, can I have goggles and a sparkly cap for swimming?" Crystal asked between bites of spaghetti.

"Of course, sweetheart," Meredith said, chuckling. "We'll get you the fanciest ones they have."

Derek grinned, watching them both. "You're going to be the best swimmer out there, Crystal. And we'll both be there to cheer you on."

Crystal's face lit up, and she reached for Meredith's hand. "I'm so glad you're my mommy now," she said softly, her eyes bright with love.

Meredith felt her heart swell. "I'm the lucky one, Crystal. I get to be your mom and watch you grow."

After dinner, they settled in the living room, where Derek and Meredith took turns reading stories to Crystal. It was a cozy, perfect evening—the kind of night that Meredith had longed for back when she was a single resident, wondering if she'd ever have a life outside the hospital.
