Sarah pinched the bridge of her nose, for the first time in a long while, her head's throbbing not because of her work but because of the man sitting across her -- sitting on the floor to be exact.
"Hey! What's happening?" Lea asked as she struts from the exit door of the hall and going back towards them. "Why is Bamboo crying? And on the floor of all places?"
"Ugh!" Sarah fought the urge to roll her eyes at the mess in front of her and tilted her head backwards instead. "Ms. Lea, help ." She begged her fellow coach. She's tired and in dire need of sleep and the crying mess in front of her doesn't help her at all. It's already two in the morning and there are only a few people left since the after-party of TVT3 ended roughly an hour ago.
"I was only gone for a minute and you, kids, are already a mess." Lea attempted to help Bamboo stand on his feet but he only moved further into the corner and hugged his knees tighter. "Come on, dude. Get up."
"No", was the only reply they got.
A few people from the parking lot came back after sending the teen artists home. There's Apl, Alex, and Robi. Great, Sarah said in her head, getting more and more embarrassed than she already is.
"What happened to Coach Bamboo?" Alex asked, repeating a similar question Lea threw at her a while ago. Sarah released a heavy sigh.
"He's drunk. He was too happy talking with the family of his artist who won that he forgot to count the drinks he had." She sighed again and then added, "And look at what it got me."
"I still don't understand the crying, though." Apl said, trying to help Bamboo stand but to no avail. The winning coach of this season is determined to make her lose her mind.
"I was helping him get rid of all the contents of his stomach a while ago when he noticed the wedding ring on my finger." Sarah said as she released another sigh. She didn't know she could sigh this much in a small amount of time.
"So? What's with the wedding ring? I still don't seem to connect why he's crying." Lea asked again. Exactly, Sarah thought. All she wanted to do at the moment is to go home and rest with her husband, but somebody's making a big deal out of her rings.
"And?" Robi prompted her to continue. She looked at Bamboo who's still crying silently in the corner. She shook her head as she continued talking. This is absurd, she said to herself. "And he realized I got married", she said and rolled her eyes after the many attempts she did at stopping herself from doing so.
Pfft.
She heard Alex and Robi stopping themselves from laughing. She snickered and released a smile, she saw Lea smiled too. She sighed again, swearing to tease her fellow coach about this incident for the rest of their lives.
"But he is the groom?" Apl asked, still confused.
"That's right." She said as she smiled again, remembering the ordeal she went through before managing to assist Bamboo on his attempt to sit on a stool but ended up on the floor instead.
"Babe, come on, let's go home. You're drunk." Sarah said to her husband, Bamboo, while simultaneously wiping the sweat out of his forehead with her handkerchief and rubbing his back as he vomits everything he ate and drank that night on the sink.
"No, I'm okay. I can still celebrate until dawn." Bamboo said, shooting his right arm up and smiling with his eyes closed.
"No more drinks for you, baby." She said as she retrieved his raising hand and helped him wash and dried them. "Come on, we'll continue to celebrate tomorrow but no liquor allowed anymore, okay?" She tugged at his arm and guided him to walk towards the door of the restroom.
Bamboo faced her when they reached the door and cupped her cheeks, it was the first time they got that close that night so she was not able to help herself and blushed despite being married to him for months.
"My team won, Sarah. My team won! I am so happy." Bamboo told her with beaming giddiness and she smiled too. It's rare that she get to see him be this careless so she decided to savour the moment.
"Yes, you did win. I am so proud of you and I am very happy for you." Sarah smiled, touching his wrists as she guided his hands to stay cupping her cheeks but he got something else in mind.
"What's this on you finger? Tell me this isn't what I think it is." She saw him examines the gold band with diamond studs on it along with her princess cut diamond engagement ring with a frown on his forehead.
"You got married?" She looked at him, confused with his reaction but before she could answer, she felt her hands dropped to her sides as she saw her husband tottering away from her.
"Babe! Wait up!" She followed Bamboo and helped him walk only to be slightly pushed away. "Baby, come on. We have to go home. Cooperate with me, please?" She begged.
"You got married?" He asked her again.
"Sweetheart--"
"Stop calling me that, you're already married. You'll only hurt me more if you do, so please leave me alone." She stared at him as tears started falling from his eyes, she wanted to smile so bad but this situation is getting out of hand. So this is how he gets drunk, huh?, Sarah asked herself.
"Babe, stop it. Yeah, I got married, but it was with y--"
Before she could even finish her sentence, Bamboo was teetering away from her once again and muttering a series of, "No, no, no, no."
She looked around at the almost empty hall and sighed, it was a good thing that only a few staff are there and were sitting far from their position. She followed him again and guided him to sit on a stool but he ended on the floor, crying while hugging his knees. She closed her eyes tight for a few seconds before kneeling in front of him. "Baby, get up, please. Help me out here. I can't get you home if you keep acting like this." To her dismay, he only curled to himself more. She sighed and stood up.
"Wait, am I?" She got back from her reverie when she heard her husband respond to Apl, peeking from the safety of his arms, looking up at Apl with hopeful eyes.
"Yeah, you are. You're Sarah's husband, idiot." Lea replied to him, laughing. Bamboo shifted his eyes on Sarah, giving her no choice but to confirm with his childishness.
"Yes, I am. I'm your wife, so get up now so we could--"
Before she could even finish her sentence, Bamboo was already up on his feet and hugged her as tight as he could, knocking the wind out of her lungs. "Yey!" Bamboo exclaimed with a bounce on his feet.
Their friends around them laughed at Bamboo's bizarre actions. She released a laugh as well and patted her husband's back.
"Alright you, let's get you home. You're banned from drinking for eternity." Bamboo just nodded as their friends helped her with an intoxicated Bamboo.
