a promise is a promise

Sarah stared at the screen of her phone and sighed. She's been trying to call him for the eighth time now after receiving his message but he's still not answering. She's getting nervous and she's been biting her lower lip non-stop, a habit she got whenever she's nervous in all those years she spent with him.

Frustrated, she ended the call when he still didn't answer after a few rings on her ninth call.

You promised me. His message clouded her vision.

"Ugh!" She breathed. She grabbed her phone from the table and called him again. This time, he answered after the third ring.

She immediately flattened the crease on her forehead and fixed herself when she saw him. She's in their kitchen, sitting on one of the chairs in front of the counter top. She leaned her phone on a glass jar, facing her. She saw his poker face expression on the screen and she bit her lip again. The nervousness she's been feeling escalated upon seeing a hint of annoyance on his face.

"Hi."

She managed to let out in a squeaky voice and she wanted to slap her face for that. Her nervousness very obvious to the other party.

"Hi."

He replied still with the blank expression on his face. Sarah bowed down, realizing that he's still mad as hell. No more cheerful 'hello hello's for her this time.

They've been staring at each other's face on their screen for two minutes now and no one's talking. She bit her lip again.

"Stop it."

She shivered at his voice. She looked at him.

"I said, stop biting your lip. It's going to bleed." She just stared at him and when she realized what he meant, she released her lower lip.

"Coach." He didn't reply. He just waited for her to talk again.

"Coach, I'm sorry." She studied his expression. He just kept on looking at her.

"Naman coach e! Stop staring." She used her hands to block the phone's front camera to hide her face from the other side's screen.

"It's okay." She immediately removed her hands to look at him when he talked. Despite saying that it's okay, she could still see a little bit of pain in his eyes.

"No, you're nooooot." She whined. "Sorry na Coach. Coach, I'm sorry."

"I said it's okay, Sarah. No problem." He slightly smiled at her to somehow ease her worry but it just made her more worried than she already is.

"Hindi nga kasi." She knew that he's mad about it, plus she knew it was worsened by the fact that he learned about it on Twitter and not from her.

"Fine. I'm not fine. You promised to have your first ever virtual concert with me since we can't do the AshBoo concert that we planned to happen this 2020, but you went along with your first virtual concert 'without me' and didn't tell me about it first." Bamboo told her while sitting in front of the screen, arms crossed. She bowed her head knowing that it really is her fault for not telling him and for ditching her promise to him.

"Sorry na, Coach. I tried on convincing them to do it on a later date until we had ours already but they insisted on doing it earlier than what I proposed. Matt is also very excited about it plus we haven't planned ours yet, 'di ba?"

"So, how about me? Was I not excited about it too?" She looked at him, her eyes are starting to itch and feel warm. She feels so guilty about it.

"B, sorry na. I'll make it up to you. I promise you." Bamboo snorted. "You promised me but you broke it." She sighed, hot tears begging to escape from her eyes so she blinked them away.
