A few months passed as the couple successfully juggled two very demanding jobs as well as a relationship. The premier league was in full swing with Mason playing matches most weekends, and Alice was still doing 8 shows a week and had been invited to perform on 'All Star Musicals' that Saturday. The theme for the show that week was fairytales so Alice had chosen to sing 'I Know I Have a Heart' from Cinderella.

She knew Mason would be in a terrible mood as she arrived at his house, after Chelsea's third consecutive loss, and she hoped that her being there might lighten the mood. Mason was deeply engrossed on his phone as Alice entered his games room. She tried to make conversation with the boy, but his answers were blunt and Alice felt like she was having a conversation with a brick wall so left to watch TV. A similar situation had unfolded last weekend after Chelsea's loss, and Alice felt that there just wasn't something right between the pair, she needed to talk to Mason as she couldn't carry on like this.

What started out as just a conversation about whose place they would stay at tomorrow night soon escalated into a full on argument.

"I just feel like I'm all on my own, I feel like I'm the only one trying in this relationship, I can't try any harder!" She waited for Mason's response to her desperate statement, however it was his lack of response that stung more. "I have to go."

Now alone in his house Mason buried his head in his hands as he sat down on the sofa. Tears pricked his eyeballs as he thought about how he had managed to fuck it all up with the best girl in the world. He was so stupid. He didn't sleep at all that night, but rather lay awake thinking about how he had let Alice down.

"She seemed so upset, she's never going to talk to me again. I was so mad at myself for making her feel this way that I couldn't think of anything to say. Then she left." Mason poured his heart out to Declan the next day, his eyes weary and voice shaky. Declan had never seen his best friend like this and was really worried.

Alice had made her way straight to Katie and Dan's house, sobbing as she recalled the situation to her friends who were comforting the heartbroken girl. She stayed around theirs as she knew waking up alone would just make her feel worse. How could she be so stupid, of course she knew footballers had a reputation, but she was a fool for thinking Mason was different. A whole day went by without any communication, with both of them just thinking about what the other one was doing, both shadows of their former selves.
