Set: after Black Widow (but Natasha has red hair because it's a superior colour)
For: lindsaycam4 and Ella12121212

Hope you like it! I've done my best with Yelena but she's a little out of character 😅

It was just a cold. Just a sniffle. Just a sniffle and a sore throat. And a headache and fatigue and she was so, so cold.

God she hated being sick.

But it was fine, because Natasha was here and they were going to go out for lunch and Yelena was so excited. She knew she could just pretend and she'd make it through lunch and Natasha would never know any better.

Right?

Her reflection was very, very unconvincing. Yelena didn't remember ever getting sick when she was part of the Red Room. Why was she sick now? It wasn't fair. She wanted to have lunch with her sister, was that so bad?

Red rimmed, watery eyes on pale skin stared miserably back at her. But this was fine. Makeup was made for a reason and it would surely cover up the blotchy skin, bright cheeks and red nose.

Yelena needed to blow her nose. There was snot dripping out of it and that wasn't fair because she couldn't even breathe out of it! She scowled as she blew her nose, leaving it redder and sorer than ever.

Finally, she made herself get dressed, shooting Nat a quick leaving soon! text as she did so. The outfit was simple, comfortable and nondescript: black cargo pants and a tight, dark green jumper as well as a black coat. Her vest would've made the outfit better but Nat looked so good in it while she was fighting crime. Which wasn't to say that Yelena didn't fight crime but... her mind was wandering.

That probably wasn't a good sign for the trained assassin, right?

Just make it through lunch.

Through her superb acting skills, Yelena called a taxi and made it to lunch without the driver ever realising she was unwell. Which isn't to say he didn't look. The stupid man spent more time watching her than the road ahead of him and Yelena genuinely thought they were about to die.

However, she arrived at the cafe just fine. It was a little cafe with excellent reviews, one of the best in Besalú, Nat said. But then again, Nat also did that stupid pose so was she really one to say what was good and what wasn't?

Yelena didn't have the energy to argue. Just make it through lunch, she told herself again. It was a mantra, repeating itself over and over in her mind: makeitthroughlunchmakeitthroughlunchmakeitthroughlunch.

She could do this. She could. And there was Natasha, her bright red hair a beacon for Yelena to quickly follow into the shady back of the cafe. Perfect for them to watch the door but remain unnoticed. An instinctual choice, not a conscious one thanks to the Red Room.

The cafe was barely full but Yelena didn't bother looking at the people. If there was danger, Natasha could protect her. She was too tired for that shit today. Had to save her energy for fooling her big sister.

Yelena looked awful. There was too much makeup on the normally natural woman, her braids were loose, her movements too slow. She looked like Steve after Thor managed to make him drunk on Asgardian liqueur.

Still, she seemed determined to put up a front so Natasha decided to see how far she'd go. The redhead pushed back her seat and moved to hug her sister, using the familial action to gauge her sister's fever. And Yelena was definitely hotter than she ought to be. Just another thing to watch, Natasha supposed.
