Having just met him, Ivy sat on her bed, pondering his greatness and everything he achieved. She looked over at the bookshelf that the TARDIS had provided for her, and saw one of the shelves rotate; being replaced by a shelf full of his greatest works. Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, David Copperfield, Bleak House etc. A smile made its way onto her face as she stood up and made her way over there, stroking the spines with her finger and eventually taking A Christmas Carol. About to sit back on the bed, the TARDIS created a very comfy chair, perfect for curling up and reading.
"Thanks old girl." She smiled before taking her place and opening the book.
Before she knew it, 4 hours had passed and she was surprisingly close to finishing. Flipping through the last few pages, she breathed out a sigh of disbelief before blinking and setting the book on the book shelf and standing up, stretching out her aching muscles.
"Wow. That was quite a speed read ay missy!" She smiled and patted the wall. Moving towards her bed se sat on it once again before lying and staring at the ceiling. Just then, a knock sounded on the door and she sat up.
"Come in" She called. The door opened revealing The Doctor.
"Hey." She spoke quietly, not realising she was already blushing just by seeing him.
"Hi." He responded. "Can I come in?" He inquired.
"Of course." He opened the door wider and then closed it behind him. "Did you need something?"
"Not really. Just bored and lonely."
She chuckled before patting her bed. "Sit with me!" He smiled and took a seat on the other side of the bed to her, turning and placing his legs on the bed so he could face her. She gently lay her head on his legs, slowly so that if he had any problems he could stop her. But he didn't and so she rested her head, looking up at him. The Doctor smiled down at her before gently stroking her hair, causing her to let out a sigh and close her eyes.
He swallowed before opening his mouth to speak. "I am really glad we met ya know. Honestly, nothing compares to meeting someone of your own species when you're so sure everyone else is gone." Swallowing again he continued. "I never thought it was even possible! I just assumed everyone was dead because... because of what I did. The choice I made."
Ivy opened her eyes and sat up, looking at his downtrodden face that held so much pain and placed her hands on his cheeks, turning his face to her. "Hey. What you did... you had no choice. It was either lose our planet, or lose the Universe! There is a clear answer there. No-one else was doing anything. The council, just sitting there; expecting things to be okay. The troops were clearly outnumbered and they stopped trying once all the weapons ran out. But you made a decision. You took charge. You knew what the consequences would be if you didn't do that." She stroked away a stray tear from his eye. "I know that many died and I know that you beat yourself up for it every single day... but you had no other choice."
He looked up into her eyes and smiled a sad smile, which she returned. Sniffing slightly, he removed his head from her hands and wiped away the tears before lying down and facing the ceiling, Ivy following suit.
"Thank you" She heard him whisper as he reached for her hand.
The Doctor had a sudden idea, and asked the TARDIS to recreate the stars of Gallifrey on the ceiling for them to look at. Ivy gasped and a few tears sprung to her eyes as she remembered how many days she spent watching the stars and admiring them. Tightening her grasp on his hand, the two mourned in silence; but both happy that they had someone who understood their pain.
